Random Thoughts on France-England

I have approximately nineteen minutes of internet time left before the machine kicks me off. Let’s see what kind of random thoughts I can post on the game before then.
I was at the Stade de France with my two oldest offspring. It was fantastic fun — much better than being at Parc des [...]

Some light reading after the France-England Friendly

Julien Pretot wrote a piece yesterday for Reuters about the game. Trezeguet appreciated the applause from the crowd, but Domenech doesn’t pay attention to the crowd.
Gabriele Marcotti has piece on Domenech on SI.com. Journalists sympathetic to Italy, and Gabriele is Italian, tend to strongly dislike Domenech; which is one of the [...]

France 1, England 0

France defeated England 1-0 in a friendly this evening in Paris’s Stade de France. The goal came from a penalty earned by Anelka and converted by Ribery.

The Guardian’s Paul Doyle summarized the game, “A comfortable win for an under-strength France team that was nonetheless a class above England. Anyone thinking Fabio Capello would bring [...]

France 3, Mali 2

France’s second-string side went up 3-0 against Mali today in Paris, and held on to win the friendly 3-2.
We had links to highlights in Daily Motion, but they quit working. Here are some pictures from the game.

France-England

Clairfontaine must look like a M*A*S*H unit with all the injuries:
1. France’s great hope, Karim Benzema, has an injured left ankle – Replaced by Trezeguet (Trezegol?)
2. Arsenal’s impeccable right back Bacary Sagna – Replaced by Reveillère
3. The World’s best player as recently as 2003, Thierry Henry – Replaced by Loic Remy
4. France Captain Patrick Vieira [...]

The List for Next Week’s A and A’ Games

I’m desperately trying to figure out a way to convince my kids to go to the A’ game next Tuesday. I’ll be in Paris, so why not? I don’t think it will happen, but hey. It might, right? (Where is stade Charléty anyhow?)
Just a few thoughts on the [...]

France Blog Exclusive – Views from a Proper Reporter covering Les Bleus

The name I see more than any other when I’m searching out stories about L’Equipe de France is Patrick Vignal of Reuters. He has the beat covered, and I thought it would be interesting to see if he would tell us about his work and his thoughts about Les Bleus going into Euro 2008. [...]

Zizou Does Brazil

Thought you might enjoy this photo of Zidane in Brazil. The article said “indoor soccer” but it looks more like Futsal to me. Zizou’s team lost 4-3. The article says he was “slightly out-of-shape”
We should all be so out of shape.
He was there to do some charity work.
“It was a [...]

Ambitious Ribery is a player to watch in Euro 2008

France winger Franck Ribery wants to play like Zidane and win the Ballon D’or. Leading France to victory this summer would go some way to helping him toward those goals. I, for one, am a big, big fan of the player. In the post-Zidane era, he has just about looked like France’s [...]

Le Sélectionneur, Raymond Domenech: Soon-to-be legend or wrong man for the job?

Anyone who watched France lose to Scotland in Paris could be forgiven for asking if Raymond Domenech had lost the plot. But France recovered and qualified for Euro 2008, where the “Group of Death” awaits.
Will Domenech establish a glorious legacy by leading France to victory in Euro 2008, becoming a legend on [...]
