And Now Some News About Willy Sagnol
Reader Glatisant asked if we have news about our favorite rightback Willy Sagnol. Coincidentally, guess what just appeared in my inbox? A Goal.com article on that very subject.
And the prognosis is?
Uncertain. But hopeful.
“A new year means a new start” the French right-back explained. “I’m going to work hard and well, and fight for my place.”
With Christian Lell and Philipp Lahm both in impressive form in the opening half of the Bundesliga season, Sagnol has a tough fight on his hands to regain a spot in the Bayern starting XI.
“As a player, it puts you under pressure, but you need pressure to play better” he explained.
“I’m possibly even more motivated than I was two or three years ago” Sagnol confessed. “I’ve accepted the coach’s opinion” Sagnol confirmed, satisfied that his lack of regular appearances “was only due to my fitness, and not my ability as a footballer. “The problem between the coach and myself has been resolved.
“I worked hard during the holiday. I went running nearly every day and played a lot of tennis. It was important I kept moving to help my knee. It’s back to how it was before the injury”
My guess is that he’ll be called up for the Spain game in February, when we’ll see how succesful that knee rehabilition has been.
Let’s all cross our fingers for Willy, okay?
Update: I just found a great interview with Willy on this blog. Be sure to go in and read it.
