Dear Raymond, OR: What Advice Would You Give to Domenech?

Dear Raymond,

We’ve reached a dead end. The team isn’t progressing. In fact, it’s regressing. Something has to change.

Given the talent that France has, this is hard to believe. There has to be something the sélectionneur can do to unleash the skills and abilities of these players. But in the past two years, you haven’t done it.

So here’s some advice from people who care about the team.

Here’s your chance to sound off, France fans. Domenech’s staying, but he’s not going to be able to do the same ol’ thing if he wants to have a job in 2009.

If you were giving advice to Raymond Domenech about what needs to change for this team, what would you tell him?

    Dear Raymond,

Please, never recall Abidal due to his ridiculous tournament-losing defensive lapse.

I never want to see Gomis again, ever. He was just ridiculous at Euro 2008. Never again!!!

Please let the old guard go, with much affection and gratitude. This includes Thierry Henry and the neglected Trezeguet, it’s too late to bring him back. No More Govou, no more Malouda either.

Make Benzema the de-facto #9. Nasri and Ribery to provide full-time service. Toulalan, Mexes, Evra, and Diarra now full-time.

  • Michel-Olivier

diarra is not that good. i rather see nasri and flamini in central midfield, nasri will attack, flamini will stay back. diarra was playing for the chelsea reserve he got call in the french team, one of domenech favorite like sagnol.

    Dear Raymond,

    Get Cancer!

    Love,

    Mas.

  • Paul

Play nice Magnusson… maybe a bit of the chicken pox would serve him well but cancer??? Nah…

    Dear Raymond,

Please hand in your resignation letter and I wish you a happily ever after with your new wife–that is, if she has not rejected your proposal. If you don’t mind, you may also suggest to the FFF a new coach that might manage Les Bleus to their fullest potential. If you are at a loss as to who might continue your brilliant tenure here, may I suggest a few names–one of which is Didier Deschamps?

    Cheers.

    Dear Raymond,

Use the best players available, keep your system simple, play attacking football, but keep it steady at the back.

    Go get’em,
    Jeff

  • Jean Pierre

    Dear Raymond,

Please don’t make ridiculous line-ups anymore, like putting Henry alone in front, and send Gomis to home, I never want to see him back, no instead use the talented players.

I want to see the young talented players, like Ribery, Benzema and Nasri. Okay, keep some old players. Henry can stay, though he underperformed, and recall Trezeguet. But they will to old for the World Cup though

  • Doumé

    >Spain to win the 2009 confederations cup, 2010 and 2114 world cups along with the 2112 Euro cup with the same squad.<

By the Euro 2112 their average age will be 134 years old! Wow.

  • Jamie

dear spain you were never going to win that world cup anyway, why are you so bitter even after you have won the euros?
go have a nap or something..that’s what you do mostly isn’t it?

  • ish

man france has such a great squad that i think a moron with half a brain could have chosen a great side based only on form.
    ————–frey—-
    sagna—mexes—-thuram/gallas—-evra
    ——toulalan/makalele——flamini——-
    —————nasri/ribery————-
    govou/ribery——————–malouda/ribery
    —————benzema/henry———–

ok so maybe he is a little short of in form attacking players but that line up is still very good. Oh why cant ribery be a triplet.

  • Greiff

    Magnusson:

Tasteless comment. Not witty at all. In fact inhuman. Shame on you.

  • sandrahn

    Dearest Raymond:

    Lose the astrology.

Pick players ON FORM, not your personal little prejudices and capricious whims.

Give the French national team a philosophy of ambition, risk-taking, positive open play — instead of cowardice.

Look at the entire gamut of wonderful talent your country possesses and USE it.

Learn to make France and its non-French supporters PROUD.

But the very best thing you can do for your country is this:
    RESIGN IMMEDIATELY.
    —————————————————————-

Hello all: I was on vacation in Brazil with family last week and was offline most of the time. On Friday I logged onto a cousin’s PC just to check out the latest football news and read about the FFF’s decision.

Yes, I was struck by the staggeringly stupid decision but, unfortunately, not at all surprised.

Something told me that politics–Domenech’s favored position in the hierarchy of French football–would trump good common sense. I know how guys like Deschamps are looked upon by these FFF suits, I just didn’t believe they were clearsighted enuf to open up their pathetically blinkered minds and put away their prejudices for the good of French football. I thought all the talk of Deschamps or Tigana or anyone else like that was just pie in the sky stuff. I was desperate to be proven wrong.

Now I’m torn between wanting to see France fail under Domenech and wanting him not to destroy any hopes of France getting to the 2010 wc. Tho if that means just going out in pathetic fashion in the early stages of the tournament like at the Euros last month, better not to qualify at all.

And as for the likes of Ben Arfa, Ribery, Benzema backing him….thanks fellas for putting your own careers ahead of your country’s ambitions.

    Greiff, I agree with you.
Do I wish cancer on him? Of course not
Would I change it? not a chance
