Faroe Islands vs. France Expected to be Played as Scheduled
Latest news from l’Equipe is that the game is expected to be played as scheduled on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. France time. (Which, if I’m adding this up right will have me dragging myself out of bed at 8:00 a.m.)
“From our point of view, we are preparing to play tomorrow (Saturday),” said the spokesman for the team, Yann le Guillard, contacted shortly before 1 o’clock in the morning. “Currently, the pilot tells us that we will take off about 11 am. We [expect] to make the match.”
Assuming the game takes place as planned, the team will take the field without having practiced at the site, but team reps don’t expect this to be a problem, and the guys are taking everything in stride. “The players accepted the situation with good humor and serenity, keeping busy by sleeping, reading…listening to music or playing cards.”
Just like all of the rest of us who’ve dealt with canceled flights, right?
Coach Raymond Domenech had this to say about the players state of mind:
They are aware that we can do nothing else. They have only one desire: to play, win the three points with a victory, then to return to Clairefontaine to prepare for the match against the Lithuanians.
So…cross your fingers and hope that all goes well and that everybody, including the referees and UEFA representatives, can make the game.
