France-Austria: For Absolutely Nothing but Pride. Leave Comments and Streams Here

This is it! The final World Cup qualifier! Are you excited?

Yeah, neither is anybody else. Let’s still hope for a good showing.

As Jeff discussed, Serbia’s win over Romania means France has no chance to go top of the group. France’s win over Faroe Islands means that France is guaranteed the second-place playoffs. Our guys have nothing to play for but pride. Let’s hope they do it for that, at least.

This team seems to have developed some heart in the past couple of games, and I want that to continue. And now that Benzema so injudiciously expressed his ambivalence, he knows that all eyes will be upon him. Let’s hope he makes the most of it. (Oh, and unlike last time we faced Austria, there’s no Mexes to rugby tackle guys in the box. So we shouldn’t end up down 3-1. Right?)

Watch out on set pieces, boys, and give it your all.

Expected lineup is interested and filled with bench players Domenech wants to get a look at.

Lloris – Fanni, Squillaci, Escudé, Clichy – A. Diarra, Mou. Sissoko – Govou, Malouda – Henry (cap.), Benzema.

Because why wouldn’t Domenech test out new players today? (I mean, besides the fact that he’s Domenech.)

It’ll be nice to see some of these boys in action. They might be bench players for Les Bleus, but they are all key players for their clubs.

But were two DMs really necessary? It would have been nice to see a third striker out there.

I have never expressed so many swear words at my computer as I have today. For the penalty, all I got was a black screen with audio. I didn’t even know which side it was for until they started talking about Henry getting number whatever for country. What’s the score? Is it 2-0? Who scored the first?

Thanks, Steven. I’ve got my DVR set up to tape the FSC replay at 4:00, but it’s always so much better seeing it live. Let’s hope my computer comes through for me in the second half.

Henry holding his hamstring as he goes off. That is not good.

but now, A-P-G, with that exquisite goal, all is forgiven.

Methinks Gignac is the real deal.

Gignac needs to be a fixture in the starting lineup.

59% possession. Not unusual. And yet we’re actually winning for a change. :-)

I am not watching the game, but is the stadium packed? I love the Stade de France at full capacity.

Not packed, alas. Lower bowl is crowded, and that’s all that shows up in most TV shots. But the upper portion looks like it has a lot of empty seats.

yeah, I feel like it isn’t as exciting because Austria still scored, and now it seems like Henry might be hurt…..again. damn

Je trouve que c’est dommage que l’equipe n’ai pas pus reproduire dans la deuxieme mi-temps le niveau de jeu qu’il y avait dans la premiere. Le score aurait ete nettement plus eleve.

A nice friendly match between France and Austria! Now the hard work begins. I thought Benzema, Fanni, Malouda and Gignac looked good. But maybe domenech should have given others a run as well…Diaby???
