France Gets a new Maillot (Jersey)

Any woman can tell you that the quickest way to exorcise demons is to get new clothes. That is apparently the France strategy as well. They’ve unveiled this new maillot for the Sweden game.

Because that old new jersey? The one they wore in Euros? I don’t think anybody’s in any hurry to see that one again.

(Oh, and Henry’s the one displaying the shirt with Domenech because Henry is the new captain. Interesting choice.)

I like it too. It has that retro touch to it. Hopefully they play better wearing it. As for Henry being the captian he is an understandable choice for now considering no one seems to have stepped up to lead this team. But I’m sure someone will come around to do it.

You’re right Laurie, but I think there’s more than a little exorcism going on with the new jersey than just getting over Euro 2008. Its supposed to represent youth, reinvigoration, etc.–but I’m guessing it’s also something the young guys on the team are meant to call their own. Domenech and the FFF are telling us that this is a new generation and probably understand that all the “new Zidanes” are more than a little intimidated by the glories of the past…after all, putting on the shirt of the Zidane generation (and that of Platini) is a lot to live up to.

I like its youthful look, even if it suggests Team Adidas as much as the National Team of France, but maybe that’s the point.

It’s ok — still not anywhere as good as the blue worn by the France 98 team.

Henry is not a good choice for captain — a striker should never be captain. And he wasn’t a good captain for Arsenal. Best captains are defenders, then midfielders.

Crazy rumour going around the English press today about Silvestre coming to Arsenal. I’m too shocked to even be coherent about it.

Geez… you guys are really taking superstition to a new level.

In 2006, you ditched the white away jersey, because it’s the one you were wearing in the final against Italy. In 2008, you’re ditching the old blue one, because once again, you were wearing it when you lost to Italy. Can’t Domenech think of anything else but Italy? :)

marco, seems like YOU’RE the one who can’t think about anything but France–else why would you come on here and express so much concern about France’s shirts? Your interpretation of the France’s shirt choices is pretty hilarious — typical of an arrogant Italy fan who thinks the world revolves around you.

Wow… guess sarcasm just flies by you sandrahn… Let me guess: you’re one of those who wanted to keep Domenech, right?

Bad ref gave Italy that win – Abidal redcarded, penalty, injury to RibĂ©ry, Vieira out, Henry injured, Zidane gone…Plus an unnecessary free kick to Italy…gave Italy both goals. So Italy won 2-0 on a penalty and an own goal. I think a more accurate score was 3-1 France a month after France should have beaten Italy (as can be seen by the superior amount of shots on goal) in the World Cup Final.

I think Italians are insecure about France because everybody complains France deserved to beat Italy and Italians know it deep down…
(Btw, I love Italy, but I hate the team almost as much as I hate the Portuguese team).

Ugly colour of the maillot, i liked the “real” darkish blue, this blue is too italian and it should have more red in the shirt. I preferred the last one and the one in 2006:D

u all need to relax about the jersey, because they will have a new one for south africa, and after that nike is making the jerseys. i think the nike ones will be alot nicer, and i hate the collar. Henry is a good captain, because he has the most caps on the team (103) also the most goals, something the french haven’t been good at recently i think nasri, gourcouff, and jeremy menez should all be starting and get rid of all the old players, also govou is nothing special saha and cisse are better
