France News: Raymond Proposes to Estelle

June 19th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 8 Comments »

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Or, alternatively, when you’re soon going to be unemployed, grab your baby-mama and make it legal before she can get away. And if you can deflect media attention away from your failures at the same time, so much the better.

That seems to be the Raymond Domenech strategy. After Tuesday’s game, while he was being interviewed, he proposed to Estelle Denis on national TV.

Roughly, “The only thing of that I can think of at the moment is for me to marry Estelle. It is in moments such as this that one needs close relations. And now I need them.”

I believe that this is probably true.

Some people are less than impressed with this, so we’re also getting some fun editorial comments on Raymond’s method of proposal on YouTube. This one offers possibilities that are just as classy and romantic. Like, “Honey, I wrecked the car. Will you marry me?”

Of course, he has now said he made a mistake with the proposal.

“Yes, forgive me. It was an error in communication,” Domenech said Wednesday. “I felt a moment of humanity when I should have stayed cold and professional. Behind my outer shell, I felt the need to tell people that I love them.”

So did Estelle say yes? He won’t say, and I think I read (but can’t find it now) an interview where Estelle said that this is a private matter.

Uh-oh.

Stay tuned.

I think he’s losing his mind. His life is literally falling apart.

I feel bad for him.

I like Domenech. He makes me feel like I too can coach a prominent national side.

Laurie would you also please clarify this fight that happened in the tunnel!
It seems that the Anti-French Media got it all wrong and there was no
“in-fighting” but something that went on with ignorant fans.
Thanks

It’s actually Vieira who wanted to fight Van Nistelrooy who apparently was still pissed about Vieira’s autobiography from a few years back when they were both playing in England. He reportedly told him to sit his ass down. You see Vieira trying to get it on when Boumsong keeps him calm and pushes him toward a very surprised Patrice Evra. Aside from that you hear Abidal saying “Ouais ta gueule homme du match” which transaltes as “Yeah shut the fuck up man of the match”.
There have been a lot of problems in the tem but this one was not infighting.

Actually I read a slightly different take in the English press — that RVN was waiting for Vieira in the tunnel after the Holland game, still angry about Vieira’s book, and started a confrontation. Evra had to hold Vieira back. Whatever the case, it was not a case of in-fighting.

Oh, and Vieira’s comments about RVN were entirely correct.
