France Poll: Which Central Midfielders Would You Like to See Starting?

May 29th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 15 Comments »

Okay, France fans, time for our next poll.

I was going to ask which central defenders you’d like to see starting. I don’t know about you, but the selection of Sebastien Squillaci and Jean-Alain Boumsong took all the suspense out. Can we really see Domenech starting anybody but William Gallas and Lilian Thuram? Ever? (Feel free to disagree with me in the comments.)

So I decided instead to ask you about central midfielders. Which pair, among Patrick Vieira, Claude Makélélé, Lassana Diarra and Jérémy Toulalan, would you like to see starting?

I just want to see Toulalan start in that CM position. Makelele or Vieira can join him.

There is no one better than Makelele and Vieira…when they are on form. Luckily for us, when one isn’t playing well, the other is, so just insert Toulalan in his place, and it’s dynamite!

Well, I think Makelele-Vieira was the best midfield pairing in the 2006 wc. If they’re in form at the Euros, there’s no other choice for me. That said, I can’t help it, for me Toulalan is one of the world’s best DMs right now. I really would love to see him given more than just a few minutes off the bench. I’m not sure how good he is paired with Diarra, tho. Tough call, so I’m wimping out. :-)

I fear this is one Doms will get wrong. I put Makalele - Toulalan, but if I were Doms I might be looking at more options than he has in his 23.

Flamini could have done a decent job. I like Lassana Diarra. I love Vieira, but him and Maks together doesn’t always work, and Vieira’s form is a concern.

Verdict: Makalele and one from Toulalan and Diarra.

Vieira and Toulalan. I think Jeremy will be considered one of the best DM’s in the world soon if not THE best.

I have to agree with my buddy lefutur, Vieira and Toulalan ideally would be the best as you have the fiery, aggressive leader in Vieira with his equally effective, while better offensively (as in distribution) partner in the Lyonnais. If Maké was at his peak, I’d have to give him the edge over Toulalan, because I think his tackling ability’s better, though the concern I have with Claude these days is his speed isn’t what it was, so as a result he’ll have difficulty catching up to the play if he didn’t anticipate it correctly. Of course, he almost always anticipates it correctly, so it isn’t a huge concern, yet I believe it’d be more difficult to bypass a Vieira-Toulalan pairing at its best.

Toulalan should start every match in Euro 2008

“Toulalan should start every match in Euro 2008″

talent-wise he could, but he’s played ALOT this season and though he’s young, it must be starting to wear him down.

Well it looks like at today’s training, Vieira left the pitch early, while holding his left thigh. Toulalan took his place in the training team. Well?

Wow. That’s news. Who would that bring back do you think? Flamini, or A. Diarra?

I know I’m a horrible person, but having Makelele and Vieira on the field together scares me. They were gods in ‘06, but Vieira has hardly played on the NT in the last year.

I don’t wish an injury on him. I really don’t. But if we have to lose a player to injury…

i picked viera-toulalan…
but if viera is injured idk.
we should call back flamini for sure, and
then it would probably be make toulalan.
but this is very defensiive…so doms would resort
to a 451 and have a more cam player like nasri or anelka in that position.
that would suk for benz tho, cuz henry is god in doms eyes althought
quite frankly he suked this season for barca

Well who knows, he just officially shortened his training; Thuram and Sagnol weren’t playing the 10 vs 10 game, just working out. We’ll se how things are tomorrow I guess…the staff is really excellent at what they do, but but…

I’m worried about both Thuram and Sagnol. We need that balance between youth and experience. If we lost them plus Vieira, we’d be hurting.
