What remains is that France played very nicely offensive for 75% of the game, and created situations which would have given goals if it were not for bad luck and a great keeper.
The two things I can blame Domenech on is to have put Benzéma in for Gourcuff, which instantly took depth out of the attack, although is was a gamble, I think he was banking on the Romanians being tired and hopefully one of these talented attackers would come up with a good personal action (each of them 4 individually could tip the scale for sure).
Secondly, to have let Escudé in, who got badly smoked by a very talented player (to be fair) – but then why was he playing so unlike himself? That’s the Mexes syndrome I guess.
I think for the rest, Domenech did fine. The 2 DMs provided a lot of safety and recuperation which, with good passing, went straight to the attack. Plus the came up also and became a little more offensive, which was a good thing. I don’t think really that selecting different players would have given a different result. The strategy was mostly good.
What else is a coach to do? to teach the players how to shoot the ball in stressful situations? I mean they do that every week!
I don’t care whether the coach is Domenech or anybody else. You might not like his style, his face, his glasses or suits. But let’s be fair at least.

I don’t know, call me lame but Frey is one of the best goalies in the world in my opinion. I believe he can be a difference maker for les bleus.

France ranks third, but as 9 champs league points out, lots can change in the next three games. Yeah, Italy is a potential opponent, but so are Scotland, Russia, Portugal, and … Germany. For now, though, a win in Belgrade is a definite possibility, in which case nothing’s likely settled until Oct. 14.

“Henry and also the white player?” Huh? What? Both are Les Bleus. As laurie said, he was spot on for the first goal (TV5 ran a replay with a very clear line), and way off for the second, which was pulled back.

Now, the match should have been a moot point by then, but that’s something else altogether.

Has Dumbenench offered up a reasonable explanation for running Escude over Abidal? I’ve been looking, but haven’t found one. Diego Maradona is the only coach to keep Ruh-Roh from winning the “Least With the Most” bad coaching award.

That replay in the YouTube video is a bad angle. A clearer replay shown later in the match showed Henry was plainly not offside at the time the ball was played off Gallas’ head — he just went forward very quickly afterward.

The other Henry “goal” that happened later was rightly ruled offside, even though it LOOKED less offside than this one. (He was offside when the ball was played, but defenders moved forward after the ball was played, making him look as if he were onside when he struck the ball.)

These referees knew what they were doing.

Guys, it could be a reality that you guys might meet us(italians9 in the play offs..iam being honest, our Azzurri look very stale and the old guard is pathetic..we r crawling with Zambrotta, pirlo, camoronesi, gilardino,pepe, palombo..it is real possibilty that Italia could be in playoffs/ or even miss out if we lose against Bulgaria and ireland in our next two matches…how about a Frence/italy play off battle??could happen very well and definately if it happens, i see that france are in a much better shape than us
