France-Turkey — the Post where you leave streams and game comments

I’m having major computer problems this week, so I haven’t been able to do much research into what will be going on today. (I will be here for the game, though, so please stop by and keep me company.)

What I’ve read is that pretty much the entire starting lineup has changed, with the exception of Benzema and Anelka.

The starting lineup from Goal.com:

Lloris; Sagna, Mexes, Boumsong, Abidal; Toulalan, L. Diarra; Anelka, Gourcuff, Malouda; Benzema

Looks like we’re back to 4-2-3-1, with Benzema the lone striker and Malouda and Anelka on the wings, with Gourcuff in his traditional playmaker role.

My big question mark: Mexes and Boumsong?!? This could be interesting.

In the US, the game will again be broadcast on ESPN Deportes (Spanish language), or on some computers at ESPN360.com. Aside from that, please post working streams in the comments. Here’s the myp2p.eu links page to get you started. It looks like there will be a lot of Turkish streams. (I’d suggest trying the Veetle stream — they usually offer high quality. But I think they do require a download first.)

Allez les Bleus!

It’ll be interesting to see the fan reaction if things don’t get off to a good start and how the team will respond if the fans sour on them again.

    Paris … Marseille … Saint-Etienne … anyone detect a trend here?

It’s Lyon this time–and I bet that has influenced the squad selection. By my count: four current players (including Hugo, is this his first start?) and at least two prominent former ones (Abidal, who was born there, if I read my Wiki correctly, and Malouda) …

  • John

    Lloris’ second start I think.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

They’re looking a mite peppier than they did Wednesday, maybe? Not that this means anything, given the number of games we’ve seen them play beautifully but lose or draw.

  • jeanpierre

    boumsong + mexes = aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Actually, Boumsong and Mexes aren’t looking that bad. Also, Mexes has had a haircut and can only manage one short little pony tail. (I find his hair endlessly entertaining.) And what can one say about Malouda’s hair?

Also, this crowd is whistling everything. What’s up there?

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Holy crap, I’m glad Turkey can’t shoot any better than we can. That shoulda been a goal.

  • jeanpierre

    oooooooooooooomg penalty

  • jeanpierre

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLl

    first goal since 7 ages

  • glatisant

    Yes!!!

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Penalty! Red card! In our favor for once!

The first two replays, I thought it was a dive, to be honest. Replay of CL that got Abidal sent off. Then I saw him reach around to grab Anelka around the waist, and it did look like a penalty.

    Nice finish by Benzema.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

So, 1-0 at the half, up a man, with a team that’s given us the occasional scare but on the whole held up well. I would like to see Ribery on the field, but on the other hand there’s something to be said for having Malouda and Anelka on the pitch at the same time, given that they’ve been connecting well at Chelsea recently.

    Lloris looks self-assured and solid.

What do you guys think of the first half?

  • jeanpierre

    i also wanna see ribery
he has to lose some energy because he is hitting evra the whole time

  • Steven

Wish I could say, Laurie … I’m not able to watch.

I think Ribery might be hurt. Is he on the bench?

  • jeanpierre

    he hurt??

yes he’s on the bench and he is playing games with evra

  • Jao

Ribery’s not hurt. Domenech probably just wants to play all the players he called up and Ribery started against Nigeria. Only guys that haven’t played yet are Diaby and Carrasso, I think.

  • jeanpierre

Nice that domenech wanna play all players called up :)

  • jeanpierre

    Who’s in who’s out??

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Govou’s in for Malouda, Gignac for Benzema, Ribery for Anelka.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

And our inability to score from open play is really getting annoying.

  • glatisant

Does Govou have to play in EVERY game? (Ok, we’re in Lyon, but still).

Franck gives us a completely different energy level. I love it.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

    Gignac > Benzema

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

And it’s making me laught every time they refer to Gourcuff as “John” or Jo-ahn” Gourcuff, particularly given that I don’t think there’s a J sound in Spanish?

  • jeanpierre

i think ‘ll’ is ‘J’ in spanish so it should be lloan gourcuff or something

  • glatisant

I like how they say “Sí, señor” every so often.

    Whew that was close.

  • John

Mexes almost does it again!!! Missed-out on being Turkey’s MVP.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

    Hahahaha! Flares!!! Pyrotechnics! Fire everywhere!

(Do they not do patdown searches in Lyon the way they do in Paris?)

  • jeanpierre

    whats happening??

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Tuncay yelling at the Turkish fans. This is more entertaining than the game.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Did they call the game? Holy crap.

  • jeanpierre

HUH WHATS HAPPENING!!!!!!!!!!! whats up with this rain fireworks and yelling turkish people

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Is anybody listening in a language they understand?

  • jeanpierre

    it looks entertaining tho :D

  • jeanpierre

    turkish

I have english commentary but my english is not that quick

  • lefutur

delay of game until things calm down according to french commentators

  • jeanpierre

    cool no delaying
    why were they so entertaining

  • glatisant

    ok we’re back

  • jeanpierre

    Nice try gourcuff

  • John

Laurie: These commentators can’t pronounce an non-Spanish name if you payed them. No matter how many times they’ve said a players name wrong, they never check to see what is the correct pronunciation. I mean, it’s as easy as going on wiki to look it up most of the time; seems like utter laziness and lack of professionalism. I’ve heard them say “mansini” for “manchini”(mancini) a million times- and I think one of them is Argentine and he’s had to have heard that name pronounced in Argentina a million times.

  • jeanpierre

my stream is broken and my friend says via msn his is broken too

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

I also love how the French and Turkish players are nice and affectionate to each other, even though their fans are hatin’. I’ve loved Turkey since last summer’s Euros, and it’s nice to know they’re nice guys too.

On a negative note, Deportes lost the satellite feed for the lst two minutes. What’s going on? Did they add on all the time they took out for the fireworks delay? Is the game over?

  • jeanpierre

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMG Nearyly GOAL for France what a CHANCE

  • John

    Govou almost does it again.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org laurie

Okay, we’re back, and Govou just missed a sitter. How many shots on goal have we had? It has to be in double digits. And only one penalty goal.

  • jeanpierre

    AGAIIIIN A CHANCE

  • jeanpierre

    And AGAIN this is cool

  • jeanpierre

those last minutes were serieusly nice

  • Alex T

    that was beautiful gourcuff

  • Jao

Regardless of the chances, we’re still struggling to get goals in open play. Nice performance though. One result won’t change the majority’s mind though.

  • John

Well, you can’t blame them for not trying. Their keeper was just too tuff; he even got a hand on Benzo’s penalty shot. And the CB clearing that Gignac floater was tuff luck too.

  • glatisant

So many chances in open play. I just wish we’d, you know, score on them for once.
Not complaining about the win, though. Good job, guys.

  • ahmad

only one chance from numerous corners and no goals from several on v ones, that needs working

  • lefutur

still very worrying because France were playing against 10 men for most of the game. that penalty could have easily not happened so the result was never assured.

  • http://france.worldcupblog.org/euro-2008/france-turkey-the-post-where-you-leave-streams-and-game-comments.html philip

im starting to realize that France arent bad their just really unlucky. could of been like 4-0

  • lefutur

theres no such thing as bad luck game after game, after game, after game. its very logical. the coach had an opportunity “en or” to kill off this game. best situation possible…a red card for the opposing team, and he doesnt change his strategy. why not play 2 strikers, Gignac AND Benzema? Why not take off one of your DMs and out in a slightly more offensive midfielder?

    its all very self evident.

  • Jao

^^^Definitely. Too many excuses. If there’s no strategy, regardless of how great your players are, you will never prosper. It’s about to be three years since the 06 WC and Domenech still hasn’t gotten it right.

  • jeanpierre

    I agree with lefutur

france was actually very lucky this game

they missed all chances and when there is a corner france is so not dangerous

  • Julien G.

    Damn, I missed the game!

  • Eric Escander

I was very upset when I heard that France lost to nigeria 1-0. So comming into this game I was a bit pessimistic. However after reviewing our performance I must say that my mood has changed. I feel our future is bright with players like Gourcuff, Ribery, Gignac and LLoris. This guys had great performances. Anelka was dangerous but for some reason could not find the back of the net. Malouda the same. Though Boumsong and Abidal played alright I still don’t want them in the back.Things are still a it shakey there. Benzema was disapointing as well. However we dominated Turkey which is no easy task. I was proud of our boys, I just feel that as long as Domenech keeps playing players like Mandanda or Viera it hinders our progress. I saw good chemistry that made for a dangerous team especially in the 2nd half. So if we play Gignac and Ribery more often we will find our way to South Africa.

  • lefutur

^^^ no politics here. thank you.

  • Armando

Why doesnt Domenech play/call-up Henry and Trezegoal? Okay, so Trez didnt get much playing time this season for Juve, but i’m sure if given a chance he’ll still be a goalscoring machine. Play with a 4-1-4-1, like this:

    ————Frey
    Sagna—Mexes–Boumsong–Clichy
    ———–Diarra
    ——Anelka—-Gourcuff
    Benzema——————Henry
    ———Trezeguet

  • Armando

Or even if he doesnt call up Trez because of the lack of playing time, then put Benzema up front as the target man, move Anelka up to Benzema’s spot, and put Malouda in Anelka’s spot in attacking midfield with Gourcuff.

  • Armando

Actually, i forgot some players, so i take back that lineup, and use this instead, using a 4-2-3-1:

    ———–Frey
    Sagna–Mexes–Abidal–Evra
    ——Diarra–Gourcuff
    Malouda—Anelka—-Ribery
    ———-Benzema

There’s a much better lineup, but Trezeguet should at least be called up and used as a sub. Henry thankfully is at least called up which he deserves, and will fight for that starting spot with Malouda and Anelka.
