French Coach Kept Crashing…

June 19th, 2008 | By: Inara | 16 Comments »

…and no, I’m not talking about Domenech (though he crashed too). The most hilarious part has to be the speculation as to whether he was the one driving.

I hate to say it, but this video of France’s team bus is a fairly accurate reflection of the squad’s performance in Swissaustria.

Yikes, how did I miss Daryl’s post?

Oh well. It’s too good that I might as well leave it up. :)

Edit: Daryl’s vid is in German(?). Can anyone translate?

That’s not German except for the last sentence which says something like “he’s no niki lauda after all”, referring to the famous Austrian Formula 1 driver. The rest seems to be a mix of French and Dutch? Not sure, maybe the other Jan can help you out. :-)

I think it’s a Belgium commentary.

For 2010, besides Mexes, who do you guys see as filling-in the other CB spots for the NT?

Gallas will likely be there during the World Cup, he wants to be captain badly enough that he’ll be keeping himself in as good shape as he can.

Behind Mexès-Gallas then, it’d be:

Habib Bellaïd (he has got a lot of physical skills, although has the occasional lapse and has to improve a lot on distribution)
Sébastien Squillaci (in a way, he’s a poor man’s version of Mexès, slightly more consistent)
Mathieu Bodmer (not a defender, but can work there if he’ll be Mr. Versatility on the team)
Younes Kaboul (similar to Bellaïd, but I think Bellaïd’s better)
Eric Abidal (yes, I know that after what happened, no one wants to see him again, but I believe the error was that Abidal hadn’t played there in a while, he was actually a central defender when he was at Lille)

And it’s likely the best of them all will be PSG’s Mamadou Sakho, but he’ll only be 20 at the World Cup, though at the rate he is maturing, one can hope he will make it as he’s the complete defender.

There are others in the U-21/U-19/U-18/U-17 teams that could make it by then if they break through, although as considerably skilled as they are, we can’t assume that.

In any event, I am quite confident that Mexès-Gallas will be the pairing during qualifiers assuming that we’ll be under a different sélectionneur, obviously.

Evra vs. Vieira after Netherlands match:

That’s not a fight between them, that’s Evra trying to restrain Vieira because Van Nistlerooy deliberately waited for Vieira in the tunnel after the game with Holland wanting a confrontation. RVN is still angry with Vieira because of what he wrote about RVN — calling him a cheat, liar and a “nasty piece of work.” (All of which I agree with, btw).

Sandrahn, I think you might be wrong. If you look at the comments to that video one of them says:
“après une conversation avec Evra il s’agit de supporters français qui auraient insulté Viera après la défaute face aux Pays Bas…”

julien, Britain’s Independent reported that Ruud deliberately waited for Vieira in the tunnel after the game against Holland, and that Evra had to restrain Vieira. I was just repeating what the British press was saying, true or not.

Michel-Olivier, Vieira’s no saint but sorry, I watched RVN and his antics for years in the PL and Vieira is absolutely correct–he’s a nasty little scumbag.

ta gueule Michel-Olivier!!
Don’t try to sully Vieira’s reputation, I saw all those games as a hardcore gooner and everyone knows that he is the cheat his face betrays. Even if Vieira was the aggressor, you know how Vieira goes, Personne ne bouge, personne n’est blessé!!

I see another American jumping on the Man Utd bandwagon! Seriously, I reckon you probably went on a foreign exchange program to England and thought Man Utd is the best because you forever see them on espn. I bet you are a Man U fan because the scarf looks good on you and gives an impression down at the pub that you are a football afficionado. I still look forward to the day when I see a West Ham Utd or Everton fan here. Try to be original and even if the team you chose sucks, stick through the hard times. Thats a real fan.

Ps: I bet the expats down at the pub think the same and laugh inside

“I saw some of the players lying on the pitch,” said Fatih Terim, the Turkey manager, aka The Emperor in his native land. “I told them to pick themselves up. I wasn’t about to give up. I never have in all of my career. You should never give up until the referee blows the final whistle.”
