Game Day Open Thread

It it game day. What does this mean? It means leave streams and thoughts in the comments.

Game starts at 20h40 according to l’Equipe, so I’m assuming that’s France time. This would be 11:40 Pacific and 2:40 Eastern.

Probable starting lineup is:

L’équipe probable : Mandanda - Sagna, Boumsong, Abidal, Evra - Vieira, Toulalan - Ribéry, Gourcuff, Malouda - Henry.

Looks to me like Domenech is putting a helluva lot of faith in Yoann Gourcuff to carry this team. No pressure, Yoann.

So let’s all take a deep breath, cross our fingers, and hope for…for….

Oh, hell, I have no idea what to hope for. Anything other than a butt-numbing nil-nil we saw between these two teams in June, maybe?

And finally, I was running through bookmarks and found this. I may have posted this before, but I thought you might enjoy the memories.

You know, it would almost be better if the good half had been the first half. Now what people will remember is how well they’ve played. And Raymond will still be around.

He did not meet his objective of 5 points in first 3 games. He should leave.

Don’t tell Henry, but he’s a lot more effective on the left. Especially playing with Evra

It’s over. We got the point. My guess is that the fantastic second half bought Raymond at least through Tunisia.

Lefutur, you forget that we actually won the Serbia game. So four points in three games. Not great, but apparently not bad enough for Escalettes to dump Domenech, either.

Its interesting that Escallettes chose to point out Raymond’s “wisdom” for sticking with Gourcuff at the end of the article. Wondering what his thoughts were on the Boumsong start and 90 minutes.

France have conceded 14 goals in the last 7 games. abysmal. they are not even ranked in the top 10 teams in the world anymore.

If Domenech stays i will seriously lose it.

Lmao Domenech CANT stay, 4 points is not enough. Aargh aaight he has to go now like Louis XVI he is old now go retire somewhere in a elderlyhome or something.

Gourcuff, Ribéry and Toulalan where the only players who did something (good) and boumsong and a diarra bahbahbah, sagna mandanda henry and benzema weren’t having great game either

but im very happy the good guys gourcuff and ribery scored especially superstrike of gourcuff. i think toulalan shud make a goal too, though he made some weird fouls

but domenech, pleassssssse retire, dont hurt france anymore

Jean Pierre, I agree with you about Gourcuff, Ribéry and Toulalan, but I also liked how Henry and Evra worked together on the left after Malouda was subbed out.

(Was Henry technically playing on the left wing again? That’s what it looked like. I sure liked him better there than as a lone striker the fist half hour or so. I know he hates it, but he should take it for the team.)

Big Benz has been pretty much invisible lately. I’m not sure he links up well with Gourcuff, which would be a shame.

I missed the game due to work, but all the goals are on youtube.
Where was Evra on the first goal? Funny you don’t see him flat footed when playing for united, and the second goal seemed like a very bad marking by Diarra! Taking nothing away from Romania they must have played well. However the talent of Les Bleus will prove that this team has great potential, and the coach is not entirely to blame for everything. The captain of the teams responsibility is not only to play, but to inspire his team mates, forget about the coach, these are highly paid pros that can manage themselves.

ye im also happy that henry looks better on the left with evra, i wonder why he wants to play as lone striker left-mid-right, he is old now

ye whats up with bignose benz? maybe he is missing his pote nasri

i think france is goin to be dependant on some midfielders again like they did with platini and zidane.

Am I the only one who thinks that Mandanda should not be our keeper anymore? Some of the goals conceded by France so far has been his fault. Come on put in Lloris, or try to get Frey to unretire. Also I don’t see how Raymond would stay on as coach but wouldn’t be surprised if somehow he gets to keep his job. I mean bringing back Vieira was not a smart move and it almost costs us.
