Gomis Scores Twice in his International Debut

May 27th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 32 Comments »

L’Equipe is saying that nobody since Zidane has scored twice in his international debut game. And I believe that was back in 1994?

What do you think, folks? Is Gomis the real deal? And more importantly, is Raymond going to include him for Euros?

I just read a post-match interview with Domenech (which I’ll post soon if I can find it again) where he says he’s going to have quite a sleepless night tonight. After this game, I think he’s right.

Yeah, didn’t Domenech get banned from coaching for alleging match-fixing?

Michel-Olivier, if you know the football so well, you must know that a Goal is a Goal… And when a player score, there is ANY TIME a miskate from the opponnent.

Whatever you can say, to win a match, you MUST score.

But, Gomis did more than two simple goals. He scores two fantastic goals. His first half-period in french squad.

All that things counts a lot.

All goals are the result of defensive mistakes. No mistakes = clean sheet.

Don’t worry Michel-Oliver I’m sure Domenech will fix Romania and Holland matches as well if not Italy and France will go through!

No comment, on the first goal it is true that the defense were more going for a pass to Anelka and weren’t anticipating the shot.
I think it’s a good thing to have somebody who takes shots quite spontaneously, (I always felt sometimes our players want to do too many passes to get in the perfect shot position) and from a distance, which opens and spreads the defense. That’s a nice plus.
Good luck, Raymond, too much of a good thing can be a burden!
And Trezeguet, if he was watching, must have scratched his head.

First I would like to say that Michel-Olivier I think your crazy and second I was absolutley impressed by Gomis. Before this I thought this guy was a nobody, now I think he is the next somebody. Also I felt Nasri did good this game and hope he goes to the euro. Here is a crazy idea what if Benzema and Gomis play as both strikers in the next game. It would be interesting to see the results of that match up.

Michel-Olivier has no idea about football. Football is a game of opportunity and the vast majority of goals are being scored because somebody made a mistake. Even if it was not the defender, you could trace it back to the midfielder who lost the ball, etc., etc. Mistakes are part of football and if a defender doesn’t mark his striker properly, then it is very, very likely that he f$%^ed up and still very, very unlikely that he fixed it.
And accusing Roberto Carlos of letting anybody score a goal during the knock-out phases of a world cup is just plain pathetic. M-O, you don’t just not understand the game as such…you also don’t understand the status it has…especially in Latin world. Maybe you should stick with Baseball.

I’m with Doume on this one. This guy came in firing and made the most of his chances. Didn’t try to make the perfect pass. He took all of the responsibility and put it on himself to score. Didn’t see the game but who knows the game might’ve been a draw had he not scored.

I’m a huge fan of the Netherlands and I’ll be your rivals in the EC.

I think this guy Gomis has to go to the EC. I didn’t watch the game I only watched Gomis’ goals and they were great goals. It’s so funny how Michel Olivier says he knows about football when he really doesn’t. Cisse is a great player and has had some hard times but if France wants to win they must take the best and Gomis has showed that he’s one of them tonight.

As an Oranje fan I hope Gomis won’t get selected because he’ll be a legend!!!. Mark my words!!!.

Besides, if this game was fixed and therefore easy to score in, why didn’t anybody else get a goal?

viera – makelele – nasri – ribery
henry – anelka

sagnol diarra govou malouda benzema and gomis make for a strong bench.

@MO: I’m writing from Oz but am European. However, doesn’t change the fact that you obviously lost contact with what football is – what the reasons are for that, doesn’t really matter. A fact’s a fact (and it seems all the others agree with me).

“He took a ticket for Berne, you think?” – arsene wenger’s comment — I guess I’m totally stupid but I’m missing out here on the meaning of this joke.

This guy michel-oliver is clearly a comedian troll, please don’t give him any attention. The match was “fixed”???? Who the hell fixes a damned FRIENDLY?!?!?! He knows crap about football. And to say that Brazil deliberately threw that match against France at the 2006 wc….well, I’m a Brazilian, and you know where the hell you and your delusional mind can go!!!

even though im w. the azzurri, i must admit between Trezeguet, Henry and Anelka their should not be any room him.

Henry – Trezeguet
Nasri
Makelele – Ribery
Viera
Abidal – Thuram – Gallas – Evra
Frey

(i absolutly despise Malouda)
too bad Mexes is injured, and Sagnol is really good, Anelka 1st choice sub, Govou/Benzema second for forward. i guess there are so many other good defensive options Domenech didnt need Flamini.(he was axed) When Thuram Sagnol Viera Henry and co. finally retire, we’ll see if the young peoples will shine through.

Well this is it, Gomis is in at least there ’s a bit of fresh blood, Flamini is out-I can’t figure out why, diarra and makelele are copycats, they’re excellent but should they need to push from the back, who’s gonna do it. Flamini creates more movement that any defensive midfileders I know Domenech has a very fixed game plan in mind, That’s why he dropped Mexes and didn’t even call Trezeget. Let’s hope solidity prevails because by now every serious team can read us like an open book. As for a fixed friendly game that is so insulting for Ecuador. They are professionals who have just as much desire to defend their national colors as any European team. Shame on such comments probably coming from a professional PS2 player. Go France!

Michel-Olivier, you are writing from America. Just because American soccer sucks, doesn’t mean that the French football team fixes all it’s matches. French soccer is great, they reached the world cup final (unless, of course, they fixed World Cup games to get there…). Plus, it’s insulting to Ecuador….

“He took a ticket for Berne, you think?” – arsene wenger’s comment

I’m laughing here. I said I hadn’t seen this. It’s only in the clip I posted. This will teach me to actually watch these things. :-) I only saw it when I had to go in and replace the clip that the UEFA nazis had pulled from DailyMotion.

Sandrahn, it’s a reference to going to play in Switzerland for Euros.
