Guess Who’s Called Up? Boumsong, of Course!
From Jean Michel in the comments:
The absence of Boumsong is comforting but I’ll bet he’s on the short list of defensive alternates should someone suffer from a last minute injury.
Jean Michel, you must be psychic! Guess who just got called up? Not as a replacement — as a “reinforcement.” Yes, Boumsong. (Aka Domenech’s binky in the absence of Govou.)
I feel kind of bad always picking on Jean-Alain, but… Well, he doesn’t do himself any favors with his inconsistency! Let’s hope we’re seeing the good Boumsong this game. (And preferably just on the bench. If that.)
Also, as somebody else noted in the comments, Domenech has said that with the games in March being so important, he’s not risking calling up anybody new. (Except for a #3 keeper.) The two mentioned specifically during the game I was watching were Gignac and Hoarau, but I think Jeremy Menez also qualifies here. (As if we could ever convince Raymond to call up another player plying his trade in Italy.)
So what do you think our chances are on Wednesday?

it depends on how well the defense has improved and the state of our strikers. anelka has disappeared for some time and is worse in big games, henry is good but will be busy at the wings, benz i have yet to see him score against big teams
50/50
if we are mentally strong, we could pull a victory (winning ugly that is) even if we aren’t at out best as team not individual players

I think Gourcuff might be key. So far he looks like a player who doesn’t lose his way playing for the national side. Toulalan and Henry have been playing well for France too. If those three all play like there’s nothing wrong with them, then I think it will be enough to carry the other 8 into enough of a comfort zone to play to near their potential.

to be fair Boumsong has been Lyon’s best defender this season, but he hasnt always performed well for the national team. but i think the partnership between mexes and gallas is the way to go long-term and this friendly will be good for mexes to prove his worth.

sucks clichy is out of the squad cuz of his injury, he could definitely handle little leo, in terms of chances they have a strong attack and unless our centre backs work well were in trouble

Boumsong back….spells trouble. Domenech might just decided he should start!!! I really do not see why we constantly call on him, he brings very little to the table in my opinion. Why not call up one of the younger central defenders, see how they do in training allow the training staff to see them up close? Someone like Rami from Lille. This will always make me scratch my head with Domenech.

Guys I really apologize for this. By no means did I want this to happen but its happened in the last few selections so it seemed obvious. I hope we our up to the test because otherwise the squad looks pretty balanced.
