Higuain: One Half for Each Team?

January 22nd, 2007 | By: Laurie | No Comments »

I’m never actually 100% certain when Bleus coach Raymond Domenech is kidding. But he’s once again brought up the possibility that Gonzalo Higuain, the nineteen-year-old Argentinian Real Madrid player with the French passport, play half of the February 7 friendly for France and half for Argentina.

Says Raymond: “He could play a half for each team. He is selectionable. He is French with a French passport. He is on a level with Karim Benzema, Mathieu Bodmer. I don’t [differentiate.]”

A novel idea. What do you say, Gonzalo? I guess this way we could judge for ourselves where your heart really lies…

(And yes, I do know that “selectionable” is not technically an actual English word. Yet. But it should be. So I figure if I use it enough, eventually it will make its way into the language. I am just doing my part to keep our mother tongue vibrant.)
