Mexès Out, Flamini In
Philippe Mexès was officially declared “forfait” (rough translation: outta here) for Wednesday’s game. I’m not the biggest Mexès fan in the world, but even I feel for the guy. This is exactly the same thing that happened back in November. And with both Thuram and Gallas out, this could have been his chance to shine, too. Maybe he could wrap himself in bubble wrap between now and March’s Lithuania game.
No word on Sébastien Squillaci or Lilian Thuram, who were also supposed to be examined today, so maybe they’re still possible? I’ll report back when I hear.
Coach Raymond Domenech also called up one more player, a new guy, a defensive midfielder, a guy named Mathieu…
No, not the expected Bodmer from Lille, (who I believe, in a continuation of his week from hell, may have sprained his ankle this weekend.) I’m talking about Arsenal’s Mathieu Flamini. Flamini has the added bonus of having played in the rearguard for Arsenal (left-back despite being right-footed) when they were suffering a spate of injuries, so his addition may offer a little defensive flexibility.
