Some interesting stuff here, I am the guy that posts on the Argentina blog, just a quick answer to Laurie since you are the writer on this blog.

"do you think there is a chance that your team will call him up"??? well, at this time I doubt it. I was really stunned to see the french calling him for the NT team, this guy was a reserve player 6 months ago. He is a sure talent, has all the physical strength to be a true #9, I dont know if the French NT team really needed to secure him or just needed a striker, but i didnt think he was ready to be called.

I dont see Basile calling Gonzalo to the NT team any time soon, there are too many players infront of him around his age, I mean think of Palacio, Aguero, Cavenaghi, Lopez, and most importantly Milito who are performing at a higher level than him, so it is a long shot for him to see the blue and white at this point. I think he will get called for the under 20 team, this will be the perfect time for him to prove his value playing along side Aguero. hope that helped.

Thierry, great summary of events.

People forget that Trezeguet didn't speak French when he came over either. (Although he didn't leap immediately onto the national team. I think that's what bothers people the most.)

I'm curious to see what will happen with Higuain in February for the France-Argentina game. I'm somehow having a hard time imagining Domenech calling him up again this soon. I think he's going to make him wait awhile to teach him a lesson.

Argentina fans, do you think there's a chance that your team will call him up for that game?

Luca, don't be too proud of including 2002 in your argument.
The cold truth is that the only team that performed worse than Argentina at that time, was us.

"We will still be better." Since when have the Argies been better? 2006? 2002? 1998?

Fab just do a google check before you claim someone is not French, it’s pretty easy to do.

You don’t think someone is French even if their born there? How long are you required to have your citizenship in order to be considered a “true” citizen? Is it 1 month, 1 year, 10 years, 100 years or more? Is that what you would like to do have different classes of citizens? A citizen is a citizen with full rights whether they live in their country of birth 1 day or are 10th generation.

With regards to heritage and where some ones ancestry is from it seems bizarre to me that someone from Argentina would have a problem with this. Those last names on Argentina NT seem obviously of Spanish, Italian and French background. Do any of these countries (or have I) ever made an argument that they are not true Argentineans? No.

So if you think the French NT in composed of anything but Frenchmen I suggest to re-evaluate your thinking. Or in turn focus your attention to the Argentine NT and ask the same question.

I respect views like that. people who argue because they have truth behind it and not in blind bias as some do.
To Fab and others argentinians fans,

First, unlike many countries, the french law for the nationality is the "right of soil" and not the "right of blood" like in Germany before the 2nd WW. It means " each person who was born in France is french, without any exception.

Two, Gonzalo Higuain has only the french nationality and has not the argentinian one. It means if Domenech was be a bad guy he could easily punish him for his rejection.

Three, the father and the agent of Gonzalo have made publicity about the fact Gonzalo is french which made french people and Domenech thought that he wanted to play for France. May be his father (a former Brest player, who speak a perfect french) was sincere or may be he handled french media to make advertising on the child 's career.

Four, Gonzalo is under the influence of Passarela the River plate manager who is a good friend of Basile.

Five, even if he would had accepted the invitation, Gonzalo stil could play for Argentina. Because until he 's 21 old, he can play in all unofficial match he wants. Domenech just wanted to see him to know how good he is and what he wanted to do.

... Final ....Many speculations are possible:
-Gonzalo wants to play for France but he think he's too young and he's afraid of the argentinians'reaction.(he still play in River Plate).
-Gonzalo want to play for France but he's afraid to play during the cold month of november with unknowns who don't speak his language.(even if some players or staff members speak spanish).
-Gonzalo hasn't made his choice yet.
-Him and his father want to take advantage of the french nationality, and the french advertising to push Basile to call him, but never wanted him to play for France.

As a french fan i dream one day he play for France, because i like very much the idea of a world team nation. He's probably a very good player formed in Argentina like Trezeguet, may be better, with argentinian skill, if he can play 3/4 foward it could be perfect. For him it would be better to play for France, where he has serious chance to become an enormous star, instead Argentina where he would be a foward among a lot. When i see what the argentinians did to Riquelme or the Brasilians with Juninho... If you don't want such talents give us them, we do something with them.

fab....fab……. Just a quick factual correction to your post. Zidane and Trez are French.

and that's right you play for the country your born in. I can understand why Argentina goes player poaching since it's been over 20 years since they achieved any notable success.
