Our Nico Scores Four Goals! In One Game!

August 4th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 10 Comments »

I’m not sure what language this video is in. Arabic, maybe? Whatever it is, they seem to be saying that what our Nicolas Anelka did for Chelsea yesterday against AC Milan is called a “Super-Hat-Trick.”

Is that what you call it when one person scores four goals in one game? (The only name I’ve ever heard for it was, “Sucking Defense.”)

Whatever you want to call it, our Nico did it.

This may be (hope, hope, hope) telling us that Anelka is back, at last. Of course, it may also just be telling us that a tired, aging AC Milan is really, really bad.

France fans are really, really, really hoping for the former.

Congratulations, Nico!

(Watch the video closely. I believe I see at least one if not two Malouda assists. This would make me even happier.)

I guess he’s over the butterfly thing he did after every goal he used to score. Maybe he loaned it to Dominc Oduro on the FC Dallas team. I caught him doing it last week after he scored against the Galaxy.

Jean-Michel, I noticed that too. I miss the butterfly.

But I’d be okay if it were to come live in MLS. :-)

Couple assists from Malouda. 4 goals from Nico. Yet France only managed that one goal at the Euros.

I’m trying not to lash out.

Yeah, that’s pretty good after only … what was it, two goals, or something like that, with Chelsea last season. Didier Drogba’s hurt … so I think Anelka must have played the center forward role, which is were he said he’d show his quality if given the chance. Anelka blames former Chelsea manager Avram Grant for his poor output last season, saying he was wasted playing off on the wing. But I think Drogba may only miss the first game or two of the EPL season, so I don’t know how Scolari will make use of his talents after that.

as i said before, “4 goal against an ageing second string ac milan team who played yesterday against sevilla, did not even have 24 hour to rest.” ;)

Hmmm … yes, I see your point, M-O.

Apparently they had no strikers available so Pirlo and Ambrosini were played up front; Jankulovski and Zambrotta were improvised as mid-fielders; and the Australian(?) goalkeeper was a comic nightmare.

Still, it is AC Milan, and even with the injuries and short rest there are some pretty good players on that side …

At least we can say Anelka knows how to pick on a clueless goalkeeper. That helps at times.

Hm, even though that was expected, I didn’t see many reactions to Thuram’s official retirement announcement…or is everyone speechless?

Hey, this is new I think:

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/newsid=836389.html#boghossian+assist+domenech

And Domenech is now blaming internal conflicts among old & young players for his–erm, I mean the team’s–failure at Euro ‘08:

Hey, Laurie, just making a suggestion: maybe you can do a profile on up-and-coming “next Zizou” players and in the end we can all vote who is really worthy of that nickname? (: You write really well and I’m sure that it would be a very nice feature to watch out for.

That “next Zizou” thing must be something of a curse. Like calling someone the “next Dylan”–I mean who can live up to that!
