13-14 goals since Christmas? Nah, not at all. Also, a good six months out of 2 years? He had 14 goals last year and convinced Marseille to sign him permanently. He had a bad start to this season, and has been on fire since Christmas, so I think you should really re-think a little before you decide to trash talk him. Sure, maybe so and so has had an illustrious career and deserves to be there because of what he’s proven over the past 2 years, but why wouldn’t you want a player who is on fire now to carry that over to the Euro Cup? I’m not saying ditch Henry and Anelka because they haven’t been putting up huge numbers, I’m just saying Djib is showing he can be useful, Domenech gave him 10 minutes, and he performed, so why are you still hating?

Pour le mec Français, répète un peu en Français parceque je n’ai rien compris.

Everyone has thrown in realistic comments. Here’s one for the thought. Both Henry and Anelka have played wing roles for the last 5 months. Henry himself admitted (though i am a die hard fan of his and he has scored recently with consistency), that he was lost up front in france’s last game against spain. Why not try 4-3-3 With Henry-Trezeguet-Anelka with Benzema as super sub for trezeguet?? Ribery then would be the head of the midfield diamond or 4-2-1-3 should i say with both viera and makelele as rocks in front of defence and also viera can surge forward too!!. I hardly think this would happen but atleast against italy, trezeguet should be involved. Italy respects trezeguet alot more than any other french striker and it has been evident in france’s recent games against them. Against spain we missed trezeguet’s arial ability and he is the arguably the best poacher in the world today besides luca toni. His accuracy and power of shot is as good as van nistelrooy. He maybe lacks speed but france have plenty of speed to fuel trezeguet in other players. Ther mere pressure of having 4 world class goalscorers on the same pitch means nightmare’s for any other team.

@soze I like djibril since his begining i’m auxerrois, but djibril is not useful for french team.
the only role he do well is counter attack
and u can see goals he strikes are mostly that. he scores a little as a finnisher, but he’s very far of trezeguet’s level in this role.
and as counter attack he far far far behind anleka henry or benzema’s level.
remember the match u talk vs england, that englishs turn all the team at half time, and after making a great first part, they lost sadly.
cissé enter in this context, so easier .. but according to me he wasn’t good niether. his lack of technic is too deep.
and yeh, govou should be there, domenech likes him too, and he made his best season ever (maybe this time he deserves his place)
and he’s maybe a solution if as i think malouda is still elsewhere (forgetting balls and his team and why he’s on the field)
ribery on the left, govou on the right …
probably not for starting line up, but a solution during the game.

I do watch the French league, and I can tell you that while Cisse may have been scoring a lot, his off the ball work isn’t that good. As for the goals, Gomis also has 14 goals while Steve Savidan has 13. You’re not saying that Domenech should include them, are you?

Cisse is having a good six months in the two years he’s been in the French league. He’s been whiny and has at time pissed off his teammates. He also doesn’t have a lot of technical ability, though he is very fast and strong, so he knows how to muscle his way past defenders.

OKAY there, Cissé is not useful. I supposed you completely missed the last international match where France played against England and Cissé came on to the field with almost no time left, and managed to almost make it 2-0 by absolutely ripping down the left side and leaving Ashley Cole with third degree burns. No, but he can’t move a defenseman. The man is only a few goals back of Niang and Benzema for the league lead, and he’s scored all of his goals in the second half of the season which means his goals per game since Christmas are off the charts, but no, he can’t move a defenseman. You’re a French supporter and you have no idea what’s going on in the Franch league, that’s sad and completely wipes the credibility of your statement.

Trezegoal is ripping Series A and should definitely be given a chance at Euro 2008.

I would like to see Anelka-Cissé & Anelka-Benzema. I do agree that Henry will likely be selected to play as the lone striker, which is a shame, because his form is attrocious as of late, but Domenech loves him. Anelka would be great in the Zidane role, Ribéry seems slightly lost, or perhaps inexperienced when it comes to filling those boots.

I’d like to see Anelka as one of them for the mere sake of seeing the butterfly gesture he does after he scores (which we haven’t seen much lately but still). All of our options are solid and have proven themselves this season so no worries.

I chose Henry and Anelka. They are both very experienced strikers and can be counted on to find the back of the net. The question is can they or do they play well together? I don’t really know but I think that Benzema would make an excellent subsitution for either of them. I would like for him to start but I think that veteran players are probably best to start. I think that Domenech will play a 4-4-2 formation considering who he has at his disposal. He may play with one striker against Italy though. Also I think Govou should be mentioned. Not sure of his situation right now but he has been useful in qualification and I think him and the four choices above will be called to the Euro.

FrenchNetherlandsFan, I’m afraid I probably agree with you that Domenech won’t go 4-4-2. The reason I find my mind wedded to it is that I just can’t stand the thought of firepower on the bench when France has had such a hard time scoring lately!

I do find the thought of Anelka in the Zidane role interesting, though. And if they go that direction, maybe they could sub in Nasri later in the game?

Jeff, I ended up going with Benzema and Anelka for just the reason you mention. Henry with either Benzema or Anelka would probably be best IF he’s in form. Can the team take that chance in must-win games?
