Preview: France vs. Georgia

June 6th, 2007 | By: Laurie | 3 Comments »

Football.fr is listing this starting lineup:

FRANCE

Landreau
Clerc
Thuram (cap)
Escudé (ou Gallas)
Abidal
Makelele
Toulalan
Ribéry
F.Malouda
Nasri
Anelka

In other words, the same as Saturday except for a possible change at centerback. (Gallas may or may not be reinjured. Won’t Arsene be thrilled?)

On the other hand, Le Phocceen lists two different options. The first is Saturday’s lineup, except with Landreau in goal. The second is 4-4-2 and would give Djibril Cissé the chance to have that whole triumphant-return-home-to-Auxerre thing. (Although Raymond has specifically said that he’s not including this fact in his decision-making process.) It also includes this interesting little option: Toulalan ou Nasri.

Because yeah. I always considered those two completely interchangeable.

Landreau – Clerc, Thuram (cap.), Gallas, Abidal – Makelele, Toulalan – Ribéry, Nasri, Malouda – Anelka.

ou

Landreau – Clerc, Thuram (cap.), Gallas, Abidal – Ribéry, Makelele, Toulalan ou Nasri, Malouda – Anelka, Cissé.

The game is showing on Setanta and Setanta Broadband at 11:55 PDT, 2:55 EDT. (In case you’re interested, they’re also offering a replay of France-Ukraine at 10:15 PDT.) And don’t forget the option of JumpTV, which I think is offering live PPV for $7.95.

Allez les Bleus!

When all is siad and done, who do you think is france’s biggest threat in this group. Obviously they beat Ukraine, but next time they play Ukarine in Kiev and they’ll probably have their stars back in action. I actually think Ukraine is Italy’s biggest threat. I hope France and Ukraine qualify and Italy doesnt. Scotland is always a wild card. One thing is sure that all the top teams MUST come away with a win against the other teams like Lithuania and Georgia. This is by far the hardest group, its actally ridiculous take a look at Netherlands group and you’ll see what I mean. Scotland has a pretty easy game today. To be honest even though Ukraine is easily the better team Georgia is a proud country with a proud history and they wont just lie down for the French.

Actually, Faroe Islands has been a bogie team for Scotland. They don’t relish facing them again. Scotland keeps drawing with FI. I too would prefer to see France and Ukraine qualifying but I don’t think Italy can be stopped.
