Ribery and Henry Injured? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 5th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 18 Comments »

All right. Deep breaths. This can’t possibly be as bad as it feels. Right?

You know after the Colombia game, when I said it looked like Franck Ribery had an icepack on his ankle. It was.

And it gets worse. He took another “knock” to the same ankle in training and had to leave early.

And Thierry Henry didn’t train so he could get more treatment for his sciatica.

Patrick Vieira did train today, and I’m not sure whether or not that’s good news. Can he be fully fit for Euros? If not for the Romania game, then for the other two? And if not, are we going to have three of our twentyy-three players now who are not at 100%?

With luck, it’s not as bad as it sounds. According to Goal.com:

French officials insisted, however, that the pair were not suffering from serious injuries and both are expected to line up for France in their opening Euro 2008 clash with Romania on Monday.

Let’s cross our fingers. Best case scenario, Ribery’s not hurt, Vieira’s either 100% better or replaced by Flamini (at this point I wouldn’t even care which), and Henry plays a solid half of each game and is subbed out for a fresh and dynamic Gomis or Anelka.

That could work. Right? Because I don’t want to think of the alternative.

i completely agree with you. as long as ribery can play, i dont care about the rest.
also fff.fr said that ribery did train with the team, and then did a personal training with some running before going to the training center. he can still run so its not as bad, my guess its precotionary all i want is viera situation to be resolved.
and also i want malouda abidal out and evra nasri in, then i will be happy.
also sub out henry for gomis, our dark horse :)

Wouldn’t you guys rather have Flamini instead of Vieira? IMO, the former plays much better currently.

Omg….I am having a nervous breakdown, Titi injured….damit….we need him….Ribery too….man I hope not, those are huge losses to this team. I am more worried about mid-field at this point….is Samir Nasir leading?…..

It will be going into disaster year for France if Ribery cannot recover from his injury very soon…

I think Anelka can replace Henry but Ribery , there is no replacement. Nasri isn’t at that level yet. Ribery I think is indespensible to the team.

If Henry can’t play well, I’ll be gutted. He has to get some goals and assists.

who cares if Vieira is out injured? Seriously his club form this year was horrendous, and Flamini or Toulalan are more than adequate to fill his shoes.

I want Nasri to get some playing time in the Euros but just not as a starter. Ribery needs to be a leader in this tournament. I don’t think there’s any reason to get alarmed, it doesnt sound too serious.

Ribery is way more crucial than Henry at this stage. In Gomis, Anelka and Benzema, there’s enough class. But Ribery’s the creative force in midfield, he’s the one who pushes forward, who can hit onthe counter, and most importantly, the in form player. I think it might be a boon for you guys if Vieira was injured. Never liked him myself, Flamini is a better bet IMO. Either way, being placed in the GoD AND having injuries doesn’t really help ;)
Cheers!

this is what Domenech said:

er (jeudi), Thierry Henry et Franck Ribéry ont eux quitté l’entraînement. Est-ce inquiétant ?

R.D. : Non. Ils avaient tous les deux pris des coups contre la Colombie. C’était simplement pour les ménager. Vu leur état, il n’y a pas besoin qu’ils fassent 1000 séances d’entraînement. Ca leur a permis de souffler une journée.

(Thierry Henry and Ribery left the training pitch early? Is it serious?

R.D.: No. They both picked up knocks against Colombia. It was just to help manage them. Taking a look at the situation, they didn’t need 1000 practice sessions. It gave them a chance to take a breather.)

Thanks, lefutur. Deep breath. I think they’ll be fine. Because they HAVE to be. There is no other option.

FOR ME THE BOTTOM LINE IS RIBERY: HE ABSOLUTELY MUST BE IN THIS TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!!

Injuries to Vieira nor Henry don’t trouble me all that much, I remain skeptical about both.

Francky will be there, he’s a pure product of nothern France getthos- tough as a nail- and he knows how close he came to becoming legend in 2006- he won’t miss it. Football is in the head.as for Viera, anyone who plays (for real, not on PS2)knows how important it is to have a solid CMD who can push the game up, that’s what he does, he’s perfect connection between the defenders and the front- not many players can do that as well as he does, particularly when playing with ‘les bleus’. I like Flamini and I think he can be a good alternative.

Gattuwho? hehe just messing wtcha, yeah he’s alright. I prefer when he plays on the righjt though, he also tends to tackle like there’s no tomorrow, but he ’s crucial in the midfield.
