Serbian Hooligans Could Be the Answer to Our Problems

Could Serbian hooligans solve all our problems?

From Prost Amerika Soccer:

FIFA have already fined the Serb FA $40,000 for incidents in all their previous world cup matches against France, Austria and Romania, and now they have finally lost patience.

Once more, the authorities have stepped in ahead of a match with Romania. FIFA has warned the Serbs that any further violence on Saturday or against Lithuania four days later could have serious consequences and lead to points deductions.

“The FIFA disciplinary commission reminds the Serbian Football Federation (Fudbalski savez Srbije) that the recurrence of such incidents could lead to drastically more serious sanctions, and that includes the subtraction of points in the current qualifiers,” read a letter from FIFA posted on the FsS website.

Any volunteers to dress up like a Serb and go hang out at the match? Maybe with a flare or two?

(Kidding. I’m almost completely kidding.)

You know we’re in trouble when we need to consider the actions of Serbian hooligans in a match we’re not even playing in. I’m holding out hope that RD plays 3 strikers and 3 attacking midfielders for the next two matches.

Something has to done about the Sebian hooliganism. I think they should be docked something like five points, or maybe more. Ask me at this time next week how many exactly.

woo Serbian hooligans! let’s make an exception now, France qualify, Serbia can play in barrage! sounds good to me. I don’t care how we qualify, just as long as we do!

Yes, there is a huge problem with hooligans in Serbia. I guess the past decades have exagerated certain tendancies to hyper-nationalism. It hasn’t been mentioned here that two weeks after France-Serbia, Toulouse was playing Partizan Belgrade in the UEFA I think, and some 4 Toulouse fans in a café got attacked by 20 guys; one Toulouse fan got killed -every organ in his body was damaged. Stories are numerous. In the 90s, many Belgrade Red Star hooligans were recruted by the militia Arkan’s Tigers, which were authors of gruesome massacres in Bosnia and other scenes.

The Marseillaise jeering, the booing every French touch of the ball even when down one man and an unfair goal, were rude, but other countries have done that. They were signs of weakness and stupidity.

Being French, I would prefer to qualify first place without any such help. I believe we can.

JP – We leave it oldpeoplelike because we’re old old people. Not everyone is a Dutch teenager. We don’t have your sense of style.

I wonder if the Faroe keeper will be at the match, or whether someone on the island had a plumbing emergency he needs to address.

Jeanpierre, you have made me laugh.

I’m pretty sure they’re planning some kind of upgrade before WC. Right now most of the love goes to our sister site on club footy, TheOffside.com, which gets about three times the pageviews as World Cup Blog. Sad, but true: International sides are the Cinderellas when it come to resources.
