Sidney Govou and Philippe Mexès Win the Cups
Philippe Mexès scored in Italy today, helping Roma win the Coppa Italia with this sweet little volley. Roma eventually won 2-1.
I know it’s from a corner and from the opposite side of the field, but does this remind anybody of Thierry Henry’s game-winning goal over Brazil in WC ‘06?
And meanwhile, in France, Sidney Govou managed the only goal, in extra time, in the Coupe de France final between Lyon and PSG. Lyon got the win, and the double, but they looked pretty lackluster doing it — enough that I’m a little worried that Domenech has called up eight from Lyon. I’m hoping he’ll use the upcoming friendlies to try out some new faces and give the Lyonnais a bit of a rest.
But let’s not take away from Sidney’s moment.

Well I am not sure, but yes there is something Henry-like in Mexes’ goal in some ways. Not as ballet-like though. It’s good to know he can score like that.
I guess Lyon’s players wanted to take it easy (?) and not hurt themselves right before the EUro. I like Benzema’s way to make a play from the side, I think Domenech appreciates that kind of stuff. I would say that was a good way for Govou to exploit that opportunity. There wasn’t much at the start of the action, and through Benzema something was there. I hope we can create stuff like that all day long, since defenses will be tough to crack.

Well im liking Govou, and believe he will help bring what we need for this Euro. This goal looked great, but i also loved his 2 against Italia in Sept. We need people who can put goals in, period. I love France, and i love the way we play. Champage futbol…but when it comes to putting the damn ball in the net, we start running into issues. We need a bit more agression and finnishing of plays this Tournament. Alez les bleus…on va gagner
