it wud be a shame if we dont qualify for WC and at least reach the quarter finals with great players like ribery and toulalan, who will be already 27 at that time, they are now at their top

Distin might be alright. I’m not sure why he never got a call up. He’s never played for a big club, so he’s never been in the spotlight very much. He’s pretty decent though. He would definitely be a better option than Boumsong, given Boumsong’s poor run of form.

I’ve heard it suggested that Sylvain Distin of Portsmouth might make a good central defender for the NT. He’s 30 … but never capped–anyone know why?

Apparently French politicians are in an uproar about the jeering of La marseillaise by Tunisian supporters on Tuesday. The French sports minister annouced after talks with Escalettes and at the urging of Sarkozy that any future football match in France before which the national anthem is booed must be called off.

And what can one say about the “confirmation” of Domenech? That not much is really expected of the team beyond qualifying for the WC10–and if they go out then as they did last summer, well … so what! I think priority number 1 for Escalettes is probably just being re-elected in December … though for all I know this may be a mere formality.

Well, Frey did “retire” saying that he would rather focus on Fiorentina (though he did try to take it back a week later). That was when he wasn’t called up for the Sweden friendly back in early August. I’m guessing (totally hypothetically here) that Domenech wasn’t a big fan of that attitude, especially since a lot of the other regulars also didn’t get a call up. That Sweden game was mostly to give the younger kids a chance and the older ones a rest. Frey’s contention that he’d never get a chance under Domenech might have been what decided his fate. A player should always, ALWAYS, fight for his spot and never give up, except Frey did that, instead saying that he might reconsider when Domenech leaves.

Even though Domenech said in response to Frey that he’s the one who decides when players are retired, he might have decided to make a stand and put a stop to this nonsense. Plus Lloris and Mandanda getting experience now, while painful in the short term, are beneficial in the long term, especially because they have more potential than Frey anyway.

Jean Pierre: I know about Frey, but I meant that when Ray called up Mandanda and Lloris at the same time after the Euros and left Frey and Coupet out. Did something happen between Dom and Frey that he wasn’t called up? If nothing happened prior to that call-up, then Dom should have called Frey up as the #1 with Mandanda and Lloris behind him. But, I don’t know what really happened between the two. I know it’s too late now for Frey or Coupet. We are stuck with young keepers, since the only older, experienced keepers that could be considered aren’t that convincing; maybe Ulrich Rame of Bordeaux, but I’d rather have more talented younger keepers get a shot. Why is Dom only calling up two keepers? I’d like to see Itandje get a call-up.

Terry, I was just wondering what had happened to Escude also. I know he’s somewhere around that big 3-0, but that’s not that old for a central defender. How is he doing for Sevilla these days? Anybody know?

@john, yea I agree with your young keepers thingy. But Frey doesnt want to play for France with DOmenech as coach. and since Domenech is coach till 2010.. that means no Frey and his trezeguet gang bang.

I woudnt put malouda in and i wud let henry play on the left and not as lone striker. and i still think that domenech staying as coach is a worldwide disaster. And I wudnt put LLionis/Lloris ;p, we do badly need an older keeper (Freyy you weirdo)
and id put gorguf/gourcuff xp at another place but what does it matter? Domenech’s stars and astrology decides everything
