The List Comes Out Thursday
You know how much I look forward to list days? More than game days. That’s how much. Games days are stressful. List days are just fun. We get a time to rejoice and a time to moan and a time to complain about Raymond Domenech. (To everything there is a season, turn turn turn.) What more do we need out of life?
The big questions: Will David Trezeguet get the call, or are his days as an international over? Will Domenech continue his bias against the Italian league? Who will our holding midfielders be with Patrick Vieira out and Jérémy Toulalan questionable? Will Domenech call up players who are currently not playing at 100% in hopes that they’ll be better by next week?
We’ll find out on Thursday.
Give me your thoughts on who you want to see on the list.

Hey Laurie, just a comment about Domenech — he looked like he was really enjoying himself at the Emirates on Saturday during the Arsenal-ManU game. There was a closeup shot of him with a big smile on his face toward the end of the match. I was interested to see that Wenger had lifted the ban on Domenech — if you recall, sometime last summer or fall, Wenger (whose relations with Domenech are very frosty, like I’m sure that surprises you) actually put out word to security at the Emirates stadium that dear Raymond was prohibited from setting foot anywhere in the complex. However, in some recent quotes, Wenger has intimated that the two have come to some kind of understanding, tho you could never call them cordial acquaintances, never mind friends.

Ugh, no clichy but at least they called up flamini finally.

L’americain, you seem to forget that Flamini has been called every single time since last may

France

Um, Flamini has not been called up once for Euro 2008 and has not been called up for a French National Team friendly game since the friendly against Argentina where he did not play.

While he did not play, Flamini was called up for at least the last two qualifiers.

I beg you to find any such record. Uefa.org lists all players that have been called up just until this current lineup. Flamini est absent.

L’Americain, I think that UEFA may be wrong in this case. I’m showing (from a blog search) that Flamini was called up for the first time in February against Argentina as a replacement for…oh, I don’t know, but somebody. No playing time, though. http://france.worldcupblog.org/euro-2008/mexes-out-flamini-in.html

Flamini was called up before, he just never got capped, which is probably why it’s not in UEFA’s official records.

Yeah, I remember him being called up for the Arg game, in any case, I’m excited to see him called up again, and I hope he gets some minutes.

That explains why the Arsenal website has listed him as being called up at various times and yet I’ve yet to see him listed in the official call-up list.

It takes some digging on the FFF site, but the nat’l team game recaps, which run down the requisite — starting lineups, substitutions, goals, cards, etc. — for the last two qualifiers at least also list subs not used. Flamini is included in both. And I also hope he gets some time on Ukrainian soil. Up the Arsenal!
