How come Trez didn't speak French? I know his parents are Argentine, but he was born in Rouen and played for French clubs for most of his career (he played for less than a season for an Argentine club).

Re Henry -- interestingly, Henry doesn't look all that happy at Barca, but he does look more sprightly and lively in the NT. He was in London recently and talked about how much he misses the city. He's struggling at Barca.

I saw the Henry-Trezeguet video a few months ago and it made me sad. Still does. It wasn't so long ago that both were superstars of the NT, both in the running for Platini's record. And now... Things have changed. Makes me sad.

One of the issues that came up during the whole "melon énorme" thing last December was that Henry had flourished at the expense of Trezeguet. I wonder if there was any truth to that. And I wonder what the state of their friendship is currently.

Still, though, a great video. And I really liked the Henry-Ribéry one also.

Did anybody else notice how much happier Henry seemed during these past two games than at any time since World Cup? I wonder if it's the move to Barca, or the divorce, or being fit again, or some combination of all of the above?

Yes, the "Friends" song is tacky. There were many other tunes they could have used. Funny how at some point, Henry is practically inviting Trez to come to Arsenal!
I think we'll see, but he definitely getting a lot more mature these days. I can imagine the move to Spain was a defining moment in his life and carreer. It seems it will be good though.

That was sheer loveliness, Doumé. Moving, notwithstanding the appearance of the "Friend" theme song near the beginning ;). Thanks for that.

Open question: do you guys think that Titi’s move to Barça has affected his role on the NT (self-perceived and otherwise) in any way? To me, his leadership qualities seem to be coming to the fore, with the Arsental captain's armband off, ironically... In the long term, do you think that the move will have a positive impact for les Bleus, or a negative one?

I'm back with a working keyboard - that helps.
Yes Laurie, it seems to me that the honors given Thierry are deserved. Not only because his skills have really helped France through the years, but I believe his spirit too. I did appreciate what he told the team after the Lithuania game (I paraphrase): well, I'll have time to think about the record when I retire, because if we don't qualify for the Euro, these goals will be worth nothing.

I also think his human qualities are evident too (and yes he seems comfortable being a star, and I'm sure he also isn't an angel). I'm thinking of the time he met Trezeguet who didn't speak French, and truly helped him adapt to life in France (they get genuinely emotional in this piece - sorry it's in French)

And it's nice that he would let himself be dragged by young Ribéry into an after-hours free-kick competition, they are back to being two street kids (note the Domenech cameo: "Oh that's it, they'll be here for 45 minutes...the only way they'll get off the field is if we kill them")
