Things are Looking Iffy for Henry
It’s not looking good for Thierry Henry at the moment.
According to l’Equipe, he’s at least as iffy as he was on Thursday and probably moreso. All Domenech would say was that Henry took “des coups” against Colombia on Tuesday, and there’s a fair chance he may not be able to play on Monday. (Okay, so technically, Domenech didn’t say that. Domenech would never say that. I’m just inferring.)
If that happens, we’re probably looking at a starting duo of Anelka-Benzema. I’d be okay with this, except that they seem to bring the same skills to the table. I think I’d really rather see Gomis with either of them, just to shake things up in attack a bit and up the chance of scoring.
And just in case you didn’t think we had enough bad news, Samir Nasri isn’t feeling too great either. One of the English papers says he’s suffering from a cold. Cross our fingers that he’ll get better quickly. Because this is starting to get scary.
L’Equipe is listing this as a possible starting lineup: Coupet – Sagnol, Thuram, Gallas, Abidal – Ribéry, Toulalan, Makelele, Malouda – Anelka (ou Henry), Benzema.
I could live with this. Assuming everybody is 100%.

Anelka-Benzema? Nononono. I’d much rather Gomis-Benzema. Those two young players can very well take Romania, or even the entire tournament, by surprise!

NO need to panic this team is so deep that without Henry they will do just fine. I just would love to see Gomis as he will be so hungry to do well and have the european scouts impressed with his goal scoring talents.
This team is so together and they are collectively better than the WC 2006
l’equip. Allez Les Bleus!

All through qualifying, Anelka proved that he could replace Henry. I hope he gets the chance during the Euro.

I am not too worried about losing Henry. But losing Thuram or Gallas would be terrible.

Losing Thuram or Gallas would be terrible because a certain Philippe Mexès wasn’t included in the squad somehow. On the plus side, though Abidal’s looked good in the heart of the defense when he’s been asked to be there.

Yeah, I think I’d be okay with Abidal in the center and Evra up the left. Although Evra sometimes gets so far forward he scares me.

Anelka-Gomis or Benzema-Gomis would work for me. France can handle Henry’s absence. Might even help.
