Thoughts on Scotland-Italy?

November 17th, 2007 | By: Laurie | 20 Comments »

On the off chance that anybody stops by here during/after the Italy game, feel free to leave comments from a French fan perspective. I tuned into a horrible German pirate feed (the stream interrupts itself every ten seconds) during the eighth minute to discover that Italy is ahead 1-0. Now they just need to hold on for another 80 or so minutes.

(I know I said I was taking the weekend off of soccer. I’ll start after this game.)

If I were an Italy fan, I’d be completely stressed out.

Oh, wait. I AM (temporarily) an Italy fan.

The Italy board is saying offside, but most people agree it was a bad call.

I genuinely feel bad for Scotland, and from what I saw they played a good game — with the exception of scoring. As France well knows from the Scotland games, playing a good game counts for nothing if you don’t hit the back of the net.

Yes, I’m happy that France is going through. I firmly believe they were one of the top two teams in this group. But I would have been happy to see Scotland go through as well if they’d been able to win. Unfortunately, they weren’t. But I’d be thrilled to see them in World Cup 2010.

PQSIK some of referee’s call were bad. But the second italians’goal seems on, and the scotts’one was offside, this last free kick for italians is ridiculous, but on the whole match i think it’s fair. Scotland had his chance but can’t took it.

Hello everybody. I’m Stefano from Italy.
I’m very sorry for scottish friends, they deserve more than a qualify. Your soccer is clear, and I know how important money is for UEFA. But this was a single match (i think clear, bad called for both)won by Italy, maybe for experience, maybe for talent.
Very sorry, I hope we’ll see at next world cup.

I have read that italians should be embarresed of themselfs, that scotland outplayed italy and that the referee was on our side. well let me sort this out. I m Italian and:

EMBARRASSED?? I m not at all.

Outplayed?? shut up mate, you played better in the second half but you can tell that this wasnt the same scotland that you saw against france.

Rely on a referee??? well the lines man was on ur side tho.

We probarly did get a free kick that never existed but you dont win games with free kicks, but we goals. plus even if we didnt get that awared a draw was still enough for us.

If you watched the same game that I did, you know that one (italian) goal was disallowed for an outside that never was and a goal that scotland scored WAS OFFSIDE!!!

So you are lucky you didnt loose 3-0.

To finish off i would say that I was impressed with the stadium, the crowd was amazing, i was speaking to my m8 that was there and the staduim sounded amazing throught the phone.

I m a bit upset that didnt finish in a draw, the result that I wanted really, because i didnt want to make a favour to France, scotland deserved more then shitty France to qualify from this group.

I think you guys should stop complaining about this game because what didnt make you qualify tonight was the past result against Georgia.

Congratulations to Italy and France on qualifying for European championships. We did our best to keep up but the free kick for Italy’s second goal was ridiculous as our man was clearly fouled or it was our throw in. On the other hand our goal was offside and Italy had a good goal disallowed so good luck to them. Still hard to take with a last minute goal.

To Giv, why do the Italian players fall to the ground before they are tackled? Cheating i would say. Stay on your feet like Rino Gattuso and you will earn more respect. The sooner Uefa sort this out the better. Dive Dive Dive. I suppose Uefa won’t bother as the TV money suits their purpose and Scotland do not bring much. In Britain it is called Elitism.

I totally agree with giv and paul, the referee made errors against both teams. Had scotland not pushed so much for a victory at the end maybe italy would have settled for the draw. sorry scozia hope to see you at the neat world cup . France merde.

A good tough game spoilt by rubbish referee.Overall Scotland probably didn’t do enough to qualify but what a way to go out!Video replay is now essential.
