What About Jérémy Menez?

December 10th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 10 Comments »

With all the other young players getting all the attention, Jérémy Menez has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle. (It doesn’t help that he plies his trade in Italy.)

But he’s improving mightily at Roma this season and even got a start in the ultra-important Champions League match today (Tuesday) against Bordeaux. And fed Totti a sweet ball that led to the second goal.

And here’s one of his own (the game winner) against Chievo over the weekend.

What do you think? Does Menez have a shot at the NT, or will he be a victim of the glut of quality players?

he did mention he wants to be in south african in 2010 playing for france. he should be working harder to get recognition from the coach. and if domench is wise and knows anything aboout investment, he should call him up because he is the future, he and benzema and André-Pierre Gignac hourroru. anelka, henry, govou will no longer be any service in 2 yrs

Chris (Roma blogger) said Domenech was at the Roma-Bordeaux game yesterday, and that had to help a bit.

The issue with Menez, he was hurt end of season with Monaco and has not had regular playing time with Roma. It is really only in the past few games that he has been able to get a good run during the matches. It is something to keep an eye on. I think that Domenech will give him a chance at some point. The main issue for Menez is that he is best out on the wing, where Les Bleus already have a glut of talent – Ribery, Nasri, Malouda, Ben Arfa, Goufran, etc. I am not sure he would slot at the top of the diamond since that is really where we all expect Benzema to be firmly entrenched for many seasons to come. But I think it is a good problem to have!

Gouffran has fallen a bit. But, you cannot forget that last year Goufran was seen as a rising star for what he was doing at Caen. Arsenal and PSG were both very high on signing the winger, he has dropped back to the pack. However we can also throw Remy from Nice into the mix, which again goes back to the wealth of talent on the wings for Les Bleus.
