What About Rothen for France?

October 6th, 2007 | By: Laurie | 2 Comments »

rothen.jpgAfter seeing the difficulty the current favored ones are having with crosses, I’m wondering what everybody thinks of the idea of playing Jérôme Rothen.

Of course, if France were to play him, they’d then need a poacher like David Trezeguet to finish things off. Sigh.

Inara at the OL blog has more on Trezeguet’s thoughts on being left off the list. I’ll just leave you with this Rothen video.

(The site upgrade seems to have temporarily left me without the ability to embed videos. Hope to have that fixed soon.)

Back in 2004, in the glory days of Monaco and the France NT, Rothen was the answer to France’s left sided prayers. He was even considered to be a left sided Beckham, with very sweet crosses. Unfortunately, his move to PSG went pretty badly, and he almost left PSG last year, but this year he’s had a resurgence in form. I would love to see him play for Les Bleus again, especially since Malouda doesn’t look to be in top form.
