What’s Wrong with Samir Nasri?

September 25th, 2007 | By: Laurie | 1 Comment »

Samir Nasri is one sick puppy. He’s been hospitalized with “a virus” and won’t even be training with Marseille for at least ten days.

And what is that virus?

One source described it as, “starting out as a bad head cold.” Okay, that doesn’t sound so bad.

But SkySports describes it as a “meningitis-type flu.” Now the mom in me is starting to worry.

For anybody who wasn’t forced to take anatomy and physiology in college like I was, meningtis is not a happy word, and it’s not something you want to mess around with. It involves inflammation of the meninges, which are the protective tissues surrounding the central nervous system — i.e. the brain and spinal cord. This means that meningitis can result in nasty things like brain damage and death.

If Nasri is expected to be training in ten days, my guess would be that it’s probably not a serious case. And the news report doesn’t actually say “meningitis.” It says “meningitis-type flu.” Let’s hope there’s a difference.

Of course as a France fan I am a bit worried by the fact that this probably rules him out of the October games for France. But mostly I just want to hear that he’s healthy and okay again.

Get well soon, Samir!

I was alarmed at first too, but it looks like Marseille aren’t too worried about him. They just want to take all precautions so that he fully recovers instead of suffering a relapse later.

Though to be honest, his form this season so far hasn’t been that great. He’ll still probably get a call up next week though.
