When Benzema is Carried off the Field, France Fans Sweat

April 19th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 3 Comments »

benzema3.jpgThierry Henry hasn’t had a great season this year. Nicolas Anelka hasn’t scored in twelve games.

And today Karim Benzema was carried off the field “clutching his knee.”

Lyon’s Brazil striker, Fred, was out with injury and the problems worsened when top scorer Karim Benzema left the field on a stretcher, clutching his knee, in the 36th.

Benzema had only recently returned after missing three weeks with a sprained knee. Benzema came back on the field briefly, but then limped off again and was replaced by Sidney Govou.

I just checked the French press and it may not be that bad. It says they think he’s suffering from a “simple” hematoma. Or basically a large, blood-filled bruise.

I hope you weren’t eating dinner as you were reading that. Sorry.

With luck that will be all it is and he’ll be back and healthy in no time.

Now please excuse my while I try to get my heartrate back down to normal.

Hopefully, things will look worse than they are.
I know somebody who wouldn’t get much ZZZZs otherwise.
Domenech says that the preparation for the Euro will be similar to that of 2002 and 2004 cometitions, due to the many high-level late games in which the players will be involved and might get hurt. “It’s the one thing that makes me lose my sleep”

He also advises people to shut their TV during the Beijing Olympics, and says the media and public should boycott the event, “not the athletes, who have worked so hard for so long to get there”.
