Which Players Will Be Dropped for France

Thirty players. Twenty-three slots. Something’s gotta give.

Seven of these players will be out the door before May 28. Which seven will they be?

I’ve left out eleven obvious players that Domenech will NEVER cut barring injury: Coupet, Gallas, Thuram, Makelele, Vieira, Ribery, Malouda, Henry, Anelka, Benzema. Other than that, it’s up for grabs.

I think I’ve set up this poll to allow you to pick multiple answers. So pick your seven and let us know who you think will be out the door come May 28. And if you disagree with my untouchable eleven or have any other thoughts, let us know in the comments.

Right, it’s been love at first site with Domenech and the Diarra’s. If one of them goes it will be A. Diarra.

The Diarra’s don’t impress me much. I have seen them play for France only a few times so maybe they can do better but i see better talent for the team. I think these will be the seven to go-Gomis,Cisse, Squillaci, A. Diarra, L.Diarra,Mananda,Boumsong

Toulalan should be on the untouchable list. He has looked simply impervious this past qualifying season and with Lyon.

I really wanted to click on Abidal. Ah!

Well here’s who I think SHOULD be dropped:

Thuram, Makelele, Vieira, Abidal, A. Diarra, Cisse, Boumsong

But that’s not what Domenech will go with. He’ll probably drop Flamini.

Jean-Michel, totally agree with you about Toulalan! Superb DM, an absolute rock. He should be France’s first choice DM, with Flamini behind him.

I’m sorry. No clicks allowed on any chouchou of RayRay. And even if you COULD click on Abidal, that wouldn’t magically bring Clichy into the fold. :-)

It seems most of us think along the same lines, of confirmed talent and experience.

In any case, Raymond said he would not repeat the 1998 mistake when the players had their family present in Tignes, this time they are alone for cutting-time.
“I know that the players can take this trauma. I didn’t see myself telling this to the players in front of the wives and children. I have inhumane sides, but this one I couldn’t have”

Terry,
No crazy here! That’s a combination that could work. Henry in Off Midfield, specially if he is on the Left, that could be nice, he’s got an eye, and then he might have a little more room to work with. I don’t know if his ego would take it though.

Terry, there’s 12 players in your list.. unless you meant ribery _or_ henry. In which case I’m not really convinced :|

I kind of like the idea of twelve players on the field myself. :-)

Nasri’s a Gunner, according to L’Equipe: http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2008/20080521_001506_nasri-arsenal-c-est-boucle_Dev.html

loool, 10 votes saying toulalan out … mmmh no lol actualy.
he’s maybe the best french player this year, who put him on the clickable names ?
anyway.
about domenech favourites .. he’ll have to choose, he can’t keep evryone he loves, but be sur he’ll keep boumsong, they’r true friends since U21 time.
one of the diarra (lassana more versatil might stay), escudé is hurt so no questions.
out -> escudé, squillaci, alou diarra, gomis, mandanda, flamini .. and i hope ben arfa .
he should keep nasri in the squad he’s so much clever and useful for the collective spirit … but i’m afraid he’ll drop nasri, to keep ben arfa, cause no one on the left wing apart ghost-malouda.

He played the full match today. I know some on this blog are concerned about his selection but again he has risen to the occasion.

He played 120 and was subbed out in the last minute or two for somebody who’s better at penalties. Unfortunately for him Chelsea because Anelka’s penalty was saved.

make was unbelievable last night.
lately ive been questioning his fitness and everything..
but if he plays the euro like he did the c1 final,
LA FRANCE EST CHAMPIONNE D”EUROPE.

i think adiarra, gomis, cisse, escude, boumsong, LANDREAU(this wont happen but i hate the clown so its probably gonna be mandanda), and 1 defender should be cut.
that would leave us with 7 defenders+flamini and l.diarra (who can both play fullbacks in case)
our midfield will have way enough, so maybe flamini is not needed…but he deserves it.
in attack, cisse should be cut, but domenech might not do it cuz he feels bad for the man.

I have a feeling Nasri will get cut simply because Raymond will not want to use anything other than a 4-4-2 formation just like he always does.

I hope that both Ben Arfa and Nasri make it, though if it’s between the two, I’d give the edge to Ben Arfa as he is left-footed, able to provide cover to Malouda. Though Nasri doesn’t deserve to be left off the team, I believe. After all, it was his and Benzema’s contributions that helped a bunch during the stretch in the previous season when many of the other attacking players were out with injury (against Austria, Georgia).
