Desailly on a downer
Former France captain Marcel Desailly has been talking down the chances of Les Bleus in Germany, saying he’s ‘kind of pessimistic’ about how far they can progress.

Maybe he’s still thinking about 2002 when the team he skippered failed to score in three matches when he says ‘there are new talents in the squad but they still need to gain confidence.’
They’ll be a lot of experience in the French team if not the all round quality, the older heads just need to up their game for this tournament.
They could use a Desailly in defence for sure, but if Vieira and Makelele can control midfield, Zidane find something left in the tank, forwards Henry Trezeguet, Anelka and Saha, all 27-28, in their prime, can find the net, France may do better than Desailly expects.
