End of an era?

January 23rd, 2006 | By: Chriso | 1 Comment »

Zinedine Zidane has denied reports he’s going to retire after the World Cup saying the stories are just newspaper filler.

I wonder if he’s saying that so as not to put more pressure on himself going into the tournament. Zidane’s 33 now and reaching that stage where he’s starting to lose his greatness on the field. I think its possible Real Madrid will make his decison for him by having a wholesale clearout of older players like Roberto Carlos, Beckham, Zidane in the summer and with the option of going to a lesser club or calling it a day, Zizou takes the latter.

The guy’s a legend who’s won everything there is to win and must have a ton of money in the bank, so why not go out at the top.

On the top? He must compensate the fiasco of 2002 World Cup, don’t you think? From what I remember he selected the French team and did not score one goal at 2002 tournament. Sometimes money doesn’t pay for the debts of your soul, don’t you think?
