France’s A List for Spain and A’ List for Congo Coming out Jan. 31

January 24th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 12 Comments »

I’ve been busy helping out with the African Cup of Nations coverage on the World Cup Blog main page, so it somehow slipped my attention that there is an A’ game with Congo on Feb. 5. Is this a surprise to anybody else?

The lists for both the Feb. 6 Spain A game and the Feb. 5 Congo A’ game are coming out next Thursday, Jan. 31 at 14h00.

And if Trezeguet is on the A’ list again, is he ever going to be pissed.

But the good news is that we get the opportunity to see players we don’t normally see. If we can see the game. (If anybody has links, let us know in the comments.)

In scouting news, Raymond and his minions are busy, busy, busy. Bruno Martini just went to Lyon-Lorient, where Lyon put in a good performance. Benzema and Ben Arfa both scored, so I’m guessing they’ll both make the A list. Bruno is now headed to Italy, where he’ll be watching Fiorentina-Torino. So perhaps Sebastien Frey didn’t blow it completely against Ukraine?

And Pierre Mankowski is going to Fulham-Arsenal. He can’t have any interest in Fulham, because they’re all American. So who do you think will get the nod from Arsenal? Gallas obviously. But Clichy at last? Flamini again? Sagna? Diaby?

(Did Clichy play in the A’ game against Slovakia? I didn’t see it and never found good news reports on that one.)

Tell me who you think will be an A and who will be an A’.

I bet that Domenech will put Trezeguet on A’ again.

You know it won’t be Anelka or Henry…

Or Benzema either. Unless Domenech puts four strikers on the A team, I’m pretty sure Trez will be on A’ team – that is, if he gets called up. That’s where we’ll probably also see Cisse, possibly Wiltord, Menez, and Briand too.

The question is, where will Mexes end up?

I don’t see a problem with 4 strikers on the A team. In fact, Domenech’s original 23 man list for World Cup 2006 had 4: Henry, Trézéguet, Cissé, Saha.

Normally there wouldn’t be a problem, but he’s going to have two teams available for both matches. He can’t load the A team with all the firepower and leave the A’ team with only Cisse.

Clichy did not play the A’ game. He has never been called yet by Domenech

Well Cisse just scored a hattrick today so what’s Domenech gonna do? He’s flying high again. A brace and a hattrick in his last 2 appearances. Go figure.

Anelka also scored today. Rayray’s got some tough choices to make.
