Frey is Starting!! And Leave Comments Here on the Ukraine-France

November 21st, 2007 | By: Laurie | 36 Comments »

I’ll be watching the game on the computer, so feel free to stop by and leave comments.

The game is, again, available on JumpTV. I’m sure it’s also available on various questionable sites, so feel free to leave links in the comments.

And in amazing news, L’Equipe is reporting that Sebastien Frey is starting against Ukraine. Did we ever expect this day to come? I know I didn’t. What happened to that “hierarchy” thing? (Not that I’m complaining, mind.)

Allez les Bleus!

Govou again! What’s he been eating this year?

I really would like to see Clerc get a goal.

What a lovely first half. Ukraine moves the ball better/faster under pressure and France is better tactically. An interesting balance.

An interesting balance certainly and yes, thankfully, a compelling game. What’s in store for the second half? Were I le Dom for day, I’d pull the double switch of Nasri/Anelka for Govou/Henry to see how that permutation plays out.

Did someone just hurl a snowball at Ribéry when he was running with the ball? I’m pretty sure that just happened.

a fair result for two equally matched teams. Although France are lucky to come out with a tie.

my first thoughts when Frey was announced as the starter tonight “y a pas mieux qu’lui en France???!!”. I was scratching my head thinking who’s couch did this guy wake up from (ps Domenech: GET HIM OUT OF HERE). Glad Italy won. We needed all the help we could get.

Nice start…

Landreau should have play this game in my opinion.

Seriously as somone who’s been raised on italian football and who feels guilty not watching soccer during lunch on sundays, I see frey as often as possible with french cable and he may have played the worst game I’ve seen him play.Ever. And I’ve been following him since Parme.
And jean Michel je t’assure que ce mec est vraiment meilleur que landreau Et que Coupet.
I really hope he doesn’t get the Letizi treatment

I haven’t seen the match. But i think we know why there is a hierarchy now. After seeing landreau and Frey i just hope Coupet will be in olympic fit for Euro.

I really got the feeling that Frey was suffering from stage fright. That one goal was just incomprehensible, and he seemed flat-footed a couple of times. I hope he’ll get another chance.

equally matched and lucky to get a tie? I would say that without Frey’s blunder it was a fair win for France despite a not so great game in a frozen empty soviet style statdium…

I too do not follow Italian football too much myself. Massaer I really want to believe you but I have to side with Thierry on this one. Coupet’s return will be beneficial to the team.

Hey “france and italia”,

I wouldnt bring politics into this mix if you’re a french fan cause it could get ugly for you.

IIRC the help came from Georgia, when they beat Scotland two-nil. After that, and after we won against Lithuania, all that was needed was a point from the Ukraine match. Which we got. The Italy-Scotland result was irrelevant.

Maybe so. However I wouldnt feel too confident in a back up against the wall situation with the level of play that was displayed. The game took the pressure off of France and thats what was meant.

Skillz, wheeew… some threats? You must be one of these keyboard warriors looking for some adrenaline on the net. How ugly could it get? As ugly as the Canadian football team?

Back to Football, who is in favour of Mexes instead of Thuram…? Mexes shining every weekends in Serie A with Roma while our dear Thuram is shining on the bench with Barcelona. I have a lot of respect for Thuram and his career with the NT but don’t you think that his game level is not up to the NT anymore?

I personally would love to see what a central defense of Escude and Mexes would look like. Escude really impressed me in the Scotland game. But Gallas has been having a great year for Arsenal, so I’d take one of the above with him.

I love Thuram, but I just don’t know that he can be a ninety-minute player, and I don’t know that we want to use up substitutions on central defense.

Oh, Jean-Michel, I hope so! He does definitely seem to be on the road to fitness after this knee injury.

Problem is, thirty seems to be the age where injuries really start to become a problem, and he passed that magic number this year. But he was never all that injury prone to begin with, so I’m crossing my fingers that this was a one-time thing.

That is true. Unfortunately though, sometimes I think this team needs its back against the wall to play up to its potential.
