How far will Les Bleus go?

June 9th, 2006 | By: Chriso | 10 Comments »

Well, the down played Germans and unfancied Ecuadoreans have come out and gone for it in their opening games and got the result, how will France play in their opener?

Switzerland are an organized and difficult team, but they’re not the sort of country France should be scared of if they have any ambitions of going far in this World Cup.
Raymond Domenech needs to send his men out believing they’re the better players and the better team and not to be afraid of going for the victory.

France have been written off by a lot of pundits coming into this World Cup, too old, too many cliques, bad squad selections. The players have to ignore this and realise there’s still plenty of talent in this group and the coach has to pick his team on form and not reputation or past achievements.
I’ve said before I think France can get to the semifinals with the draw they have and no team will want to face a team with the likes of Henry, Saha, Ribery coming at them.

No expectations, no pressure, why not come out and have a real go at this tournament.

Avinash, I agree completely with you, although I hope their age won’t get the better of them in the latter stages (like I fear it will do to the Czechs). France might just fly under the radar and win it all, once again. It isn’t impossible.

Personally I think they just fall short of the semis.

I say: not very far, there is a strong possibility that they end second in their group. Then they would have to face Spain, don’t think they can beat them this time, if they do so, Brazil will be waiting in quarters.
