Odd man out?
Robert Pires has been talking about his future with both his club and country.
His contract with Arsenal runs out in the summer and Arsene Wenger wants to continue the policy he used with Dennis Bergkamp and only give players over 30 rolling one year contracts.
Pires wants two years, so there’s a standoff at the moment. From a fans point of view I think the club should just give him the two years, he’s a quality player who always does well for the team.
Pires is still anxious to go to the World Cup, unfortunately Domenech doesn’t seem keen on taking him and hasn’t picked him for the recent squads.
Speaking about being left at home for the Slovakia game he said ‘that gives me the desire to fight until the end, if Raymond Domenech calls me for Germany, I will be ready.
He also says he wants to be be considered when Euro2008 rolls around, saying he knows he can do it and still has the desire. But will a France coach want 35 year old legs on the left side of midfield?
