Pension time

Another one of France’s 98 World Cup winning group has decided to hang up his boots at the end of this season. Defender Bixente Lizarazu is calling it a day when Bayern Munich’s season ends in a couple of weeks.

He stopped playing internationals after Euro 2004, up until then he’s been pretty much ever present during France’s glory years winning 97 caps. National coach Raymond Domenech has asked him to come back but he’s refused and when you need a 36 year old to bolster your defense it sounds like you may have problems.

A great attacking left back, Lizarazu has picked up a bucket load of winners medals, World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and what should be his sixth Bundesliga title soon.
He can certainly sit down with any player and say been there, done that.
