Santini on the move again?
It’s reported that Raymond Domenech’s predecessor as France coach, Jacques Santini, could be on his way out of his current job as boss of French Ligue 1 team Auxerre.
L’Equipe has reported that Guy Roux who was manager of Auxerre for 40 years before Santini took over last year, is looking for a replacement and is considering Alain Perrin who bombed as coach of Premiership side Portsmouth earlier this season.
Santini is certainly on the managerial merry-go-round. He put Lyon on their way to dominating the French league, winning the championship in 2002, then took over from Roger Lemerre as national team manager that year.
He coached France at Euro 2004 but the French Federation hadn’t bothered to give him a long term contract even though they wanted Santini to stay in charge until the 2006 World Cup, and before the competition in Portugal got underway he agreed to sign for Tottenham once the tournament was over.
Santini had an excellant record with France, 17 games played, 15 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss and you wonder how they would have played if he stayed on.
His time with Tottenham only lasted for 13 games after he resigned for personnel reasons and went back to France. Who the hell would want to manage Spurs anyway.
Now he’s had a brief spell with Auxerre but I don’t think he’ll have a shortage of job offers.
