The Boss comes good

Former France and Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier is sure his Lyon team have secured their fifth straight French league title. Lyon are 14 points clear of Bordeaux with both having five games left. Houllier told the press today ‘with 15 points to be distributed, it’s won’, and you wouldn’t argue with him.

Houllier has got Lyon playing well in Ligue 1 with only 2 defeats in 33 games and easily the best goal difference in France.

It’s kind of a shame it never really worked out for him in his two big jobs , managing France and Liverpool. Houllier comes over as a nice guy and in the right environment you can see him doing well.

Would have been nice if he’d seen that success at Liverpool. Looks like he came into a cosy situation at Lyon. With 4 successive titles behind them when he got there, it seems all he had to do was make sure the team did not self-destruct. Kind of like Phil Jackson with the Lakers (the first time round). Let’s see Houllier take a so-so team and make them champions, then I’ll tip my hat.
