Transfer rumour

May 9th, 2006 | By: Chriso | 1 Comment »

I read a report today saying Arsene Wenger will try to bring Lilian Thuram to Arsenal to provide some experience for his young defence.

I know Wenger’s a big Thuram fan since coaching him at Monaco but I just can’t see that move happening. To sign a 34 year old outfield player would go against all of Wenger’s transfer history at Arsenal (I can only think of Davor Suker at 31) and he has a rigid policy of giving players over 30 at the club only one year extension’s.

Arsene puts so much trust in his youngsters that bringing in a player who’s heading towards the end of his career doesn’t seem like an option.

I can’t see Arsene Wenger signing Lillian Thuram to be honest. The guy would not be able to cope with the pace of the Premiership. Besides Arsene rarely signs anyone over 27. That is why most of the older players over 30 only get 1year contracts.
