World Cup Predictions: For what it’s worth

I guess before every World Cup fans sit down with the tournament schedule and try to predict the result of each game and who’ll make it to the final, here’s my two cents on where I think France will get to.

I think Group G is one of the easier groups and after playing so badly in 2002 when a lot was expected of the reigning world and European champions, I can’t see the likes of Switzerland or Togo getting much out of France this time around. Korea will probably be as energetic and organised as four years ago but I would expect France to get no worse than a draw with them.

On my chart France win their group and go on to play the runner-up from Group H. That could be any of the teams in that group but who ever comes through I’d take France to beat them. So Le Bleu reach the quarters where they could run into Italy, an evenly matched game that luck or individual brilliance could settle, let’s imagine Domenech has a horseshoe in his pocket and France are through to the semi’s. I think this will be where the story ends if the tournament runs to form and Argentina are waiting in Dortmund.

So France World Cup Blog predicts a good run to the semifinals, not a bad way to end for Zidane and the old guard.
