Would Nike let it happen?
One of my earliest memories of France in a World Cup was their third group game in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina.
The game was against Hungary in Mar del Plata and France ended up playing the game in the green and white striped shirts of Mar del Plata club team Kimberley.
Both teams had turned up with only their home strip colours, blue for France, red for Hungary but the tv wanted one of them in their white away colours.
France was the designated away team so had to scramble around for an alternative and by the time the Kimberly shirts arrived the game was 40 minutes late kicking off, sure the tv scheduler’s loved that.
France won the game 3-1 and here’s a smiling Michel Platini coming off the field in a Kimberly shirt.

Thanks for that memory who takes me back in time of my teenage years!
Lacombe, the french center forward had score the quickest goal of a World Cup up to 78,against Italy. We ended up losing 2-1(since then,Italy never won again against France!).Our second game was against Argentina and we lost it 3-1,with a referee who gave an imaginary penalty to the Arggies. Then we won that last game against Hungary, with the locals supporting France because of their shirts!
That World Cup 78 was the start of the beautiful french team of 82 and 86.
That 1978 tournament stay in my memory for two things. The extraordinary atmosphere at each game of Argentina(papilleros)and the favoritism they got from referees at each of theirs games.Back at that time,Argentina was a dictature(general Villa?)and had to win it.That was a bad World Cup!

The ticker tape in the stadiums for the Argentina games was incredible and you’re right it was the start of that ‘golden generation’ for France.
I thought Italy would go on and win the cup after they beat Argentina 1-0 in the group games but they let the Dutch sucker punch them.

If I remenber it well,Harry Hann for the dutch, took his hammer out to score from 30-35 yards a goal who had let Zoff without any reaction. That was a 2-0 victory for the dutch?

To answer the question, Nike won’t create anything as cool as that. A pity since I hear stripes are very slimming.
