Young hopeful

Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal’s 22 year old French midfielder has been telling the club’s website that he hopes for a call up to the World Cup squad.
Flamini’s been in and out of Arsenal’s midfield over the past year but in the last few months has had a good run at left back due to injuries to Ashley Cole and Gael Clichy and done pretty well.

Flamini’s played for the French under21’s but never for the full international team so he’s hoping Raymond Domenech, who he says ‘ calls the players who deserve it, even if they are young’, has been tuning in to Arsenal’s recent games and taking note.

I think Flamini’s a good little player who works really hard all game long and he’s done a nice job playing out of position for Arsenal, but he’s got no chance of a World Cup call-up. Domenech will go with the tried and trusted and I can’t see an uncapped player being taking along.
Euro2008 will be Flamini’s chance when more of the old guard have left the scene.
