Zizou looking to win again

April 14th, 2006 | By: Chriso | 2 Comments »

Zinedine Zidane has been telling L’Equipe what has been obvious to most football watchers, France need to get better.

Zidane is quoted in the paper saying ‘ I want to be a world champion again ( I think he’ll be lucky to get that) but France will have to improve, if we play as we played in the last qualification games there is no hope.’
That’s true but Zidane himself is one of the main players who haven’t been performing and saying ‘I need more rest time than in the past’ doesn’t fill me with confidence that he’ll be able to put in six or seven really strong games in a month.

He’s 33 now but seems to have hit the wall pretty hard as far as reaching peak performance is concerned.

France winning this World Cup isn’t so farfetched. They definately have the talent and experience to make it- but their collective ages will let them down. I don’t know if they have 7 games in them. Maybe 4 or 5, but not 7.

I think if the France squad can stay healthy and if Zidane can get some rest before the world cup they can do well. If France win their first 2 group games and rest Zidane and a few others for the 3rd game who knows. They still have more talent in their squad than most other teams and have plenty of depth upfront. I think its time for Henry to take the work load off of Zidane.
