Zinedine Zidane will achieve a personal landmark tonight when he plays his 100th game for France in the friendly with Mexico.
He made his debut twelve years ago against the Czech Republic and scored two goals after coming on as a sub. He’d have passed the 100 mark a while back if he hadn’t gone into a short international retirement after Euro 2004.
Zidane will be the fourth French player to win 100 caps and they’ve all come from the World Cup winning generation of 1998, the others being Deschamps, Desailly and Thuram.
France have nine more possible games before Zidane’s retirement but for him to get to 109 they’d have to be in the World Cup Final.
