Gifts for Henry
To take our minds off what’s going on in the next week, I thought I’d share a sweet set of photos from the fff.
Thierry Henry was presented with three jerseys at lunch today (or possibly yesterday.) They’re numbered 41, 42 and 43 in gold, and symbolize the three goals he scored on the last go-round that put him over Michel Platini’s record.
Presenters were Lilian Thuram, Raymond Domenech and Karim Benzema.
(I thought it was kind of fun that Karim presented the final 43 shirt, since he is totally going to be the player to beat Titi’s record.)

That is too cute! And I love that Benzema gave Henry the third jersey. It’s like handing off the torch (though Titi has some good years still left in him).
I like that the FFF does stuff like this. During the international week in September, they surprised Jeremy Toulalan with a very pretty birthday cake.

Now that we are on the subject of kits, do you Laurie (or anyone else, for that matter) know if France will be getting new kits for Euro 2008? Germany and Italy are among the teams that have unveiled new ones and while I really like the France kits right now (especially the white one) teams tend to unveil new kits right before a major tournament, such as Euro or the World Cup. Is France getting new kits?

Good question. Last year after World Cup I read a rumor about red (allez les rouges??!!) but haven’t seen anything recently. I’ll keep an eye out.

I’ve seen the kits. The red away kit looks like a cross between Denmark’s and China’s. I’ll find the link. The blue home kit has a weird red slash in the middle.

European national teams always get new jerseys ahead of the World Cup and the Euro.
France typically get their new uniforms after the new year prior to the big tournaments. You may remember they wore their 2004 Euro kits in World Cup qualifying until early 2006; they wore their 2000 Euro kits to the 2001 Confed. Cup; wore the 2002 World Cup kits to the 2003 Confed. Cup; and so on.
