Anelka and Malouda Do It for Chelsea
It was not a great day for French teams in the Champions League. Marseille lost to Liverpool 2-1 after taking an early lead, and Bordeaux got decimated by Chelsea, 4-0. (And it could have been worse.)
The only bright side? Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka both scored for Chelsea.
First it was Malouda in the 82nd minute with this superb delivery of a Frank Lampard flick-on:
And ten minutes later, Anelka finally put one away after threatening the entire game:
And this is me, loving Big Phil Scolari for finally knowing how to bring the best performances out of our French boys.

“And this is me, loving Big Phil Scolari for finally knowing how to bring the best performances out of our French boys”
Yes, couldn’t have said it better myself. The comments talk about the determination in Malouda’s attitude. I’m specially glad for him, since Anelka got his share of glory against Serbia.

I was also noting that Malouda looks…different this year. Beefier. I was reminded of Patrice Evra a few years back saying he needed to work very hard to be “costaud” enough to play in the EPL. I wonder if Malouda is using him as a role model?

Jean Pierre – You`re wise beyond your years. “U weird American grown ups” sums us up too perfectly. I love it… although some of the posters with the American flags are French people (or even Brazilians) living in America; not actual Americans.
Thanks for the link to the video. I hadn`t seen that, although I might have heard about it. You want that – you want players who are completely mad playing for your team. Ribs won’t back down from supporters he doesn’t like or from opposing players.

Those goals were really well done by our French boys. I hadn`t seen those, so thanks.
One quibble – Some photoshop workup of you loving Big Phil Scolari by giving him a big wet kiss would have been nice.

Laurie, Marseille didn’t play too bad, it could have easily been a draw. I really hope Mandanda will keep on playing like this for France, he’s got great talent. It will be an interesting competition between him and Frey in years to come.
Bordeaux, well I thought they just gave up after the first two goals. It’s a shame because they have a good team – I particularly like Ramé.
I really hope Blanc will get some points from this group stage.
And Olympique Lyonnais, well they dominated the game, but Benzema doesn’t look as dangerous on the international stage as he does in the French Championship. It was a very entertaining game and I think a draw is fair enough.

Off topic but here is an article out today. ZZ finally to aplogise……to little to late.
Zizou ’sorry’ for Matrix attack Thursday 18 September, 2008
——————————————————————————–
Zinedine Zidane deeply regrets head-butting Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup Final, according to a forthcoming book about the French legend.
Zidane marred a sparkling career when he head-butted Materazzi and received a red card during extra-time in the Final in Germany.
The ex-Juventus man has always refused to apologise for his actions, but it seems that some form of apology is finally on its way.
In a book by journalist Besma Lahouri called ‘The Hidden Face of Zidane’, it is revealed that Zidane told his cousin that he regrets his actions on that fateful day.
It is reported that when talking to his cousin Akbou in Algeria, Zidane said: “Don’t ever say I did well when I head-butted Materazzi. I didn’t do the right thing and I am sorry for that.”
This revelation may finally put an end to a saga that has grabbed the headlines on several occasions over the last two years
